I have to vent, sorry but apparently my grandmother (we aren't very close) is going around saying that I am too young to get married, and my grandfather (before he died) told me that I should leave my FH before our relationship ends in divorce.  Yeah that was the last thing that he said to me, I think it's because my other cousin (the ugly hunchback) is in a really bad marriage, just like her mother was.  That and the fact that my grandpa and grandma never got along, but it was cheaper to be together and misserable then to split up (they aren't very bright).  Anyhow I know that I'm young, I'm 20 so is my FH, but we have known eachother for over 5 years, it'll be 6 on June 1st so I don't see the problem.  We own our own house, own our own truck, are doing very well financially, well enough that I can stay at home and he works.  I don't see why they would say this kind of stuff about us, and if my grandmother is so worried why doesn't she just tell me, I mean everyone else, including her sister has been bragging about how great this guy is, seriously he's amazing.
I understand that she's just standing up for her favorite grandchild (my oldest cousin) and I understand that her marriage wasn't the best, but come on can't she just be happy for me?  Her daughter, I don't call this woman my aunt although biologically that's what she is, was down by my house earlier this month, well she was in the same town, and didn't call me.  Then she turns around to my father and says that our family is so close, and she's so happy about coming to my wedding, ha yeah right.  My uncle, yes same side of the family has told me that he will not be coming to my wedding, because he would rather go to Disneyland, DISNEYLAND, come on is that really more important than my wedding?
Arrrrggggggg............ I'm sure everyone out there has much worst family problems then mine, I guess there is just a lot of stress between family members, well between me and family members on my father's side.  But hey, I am still going to invite them to the wedding, even though my dad told me last week that I dont.  I just had to vent for a second
Oh now I feel so much better, thanks for listening/reading.

Heather,

Those that have had a bad experience with marriage, or stayed married for the wrong reasons will say bad things about marriage.

Those that have had happy and fullfilling marriages will have good things to say about it.

Don't take your grandparent's words to heart.   Just keep in mind that although we are both young (I was married at 23 - just this last Sept), we have the ability to decide for ourselves about whether or not we are ready to be married.  Heck, I know 40 year olds that are no better off than you and I, and by the sounds of it, you and your FH are already headed in the right direction as far as making a life for yourselves.  Don't let the words of those that are bitter poison your dream.

People who get bit in the a s s by love tend to be kind of bitter. I'm sure they in someway or another had your best interest at heart but you know what is best for you. Just think of how good it will feel to prove them wrong when you and your FH get married and have a wonderful marriage!

also some people can only be happy when they are bringing others down

if you are already living together - your own home, vehicle, who's working/who's home etc established and everythings going great for you ...

then their comments are all about their own agendas and not whats best for you

some will be simple bitterness that their own lives weren't better

some will be about twice bitten three times shy

and some will be simple petty jealousy that you seem to be happier and doing better than themselves or their favorite relative cousin joleene.
