| I'd have a list of specific songs you DON'T want played at the reception....this avoids any confusion or dissapointment. And I'd go over times you want the music played...i.e are you having music while you're coming down the isle? Is he arranging that, or is it someone else. what time is he/she starting at? While your pictures are being done, or just as you enter the tent/reception hall? Also if you want a theme say, of love songs or jazz music through dinner, let him know...and maybe have a few examples of your favs. Ask how much it might cost to keep him/her for an extra hour (if you're allowed), in case the party is going strong late into the night.....ummm...that's all I can think of right now...OH! Ask him if he provides song request slips for everyone at their table...and a book of all the songs he has....this is usually a given...but it doesn't hurt to ask... -K

do you need to feed him/her/multiple people?
Deposit? (good companies don't ask for a deposit)
ask for referals.
ask about Socan... either the DJ or the event hoster
http://socan.ca/jsp/en/about/faq/licensors.jsp
is all the music burned from MP3's or compliations made through proper channels (ie http://www.ergmusic.com )
it's bad policy if they ask you to come to a DJ gig at someone elses wedding or event.
how early can they set up, day of wedding?
Confirm dress appropriately for event.
If they want to let someone train at your wedding with the main DJ, that you don't pay extra for that person.. should come of of the DJ company's cut.
do they do ethnic music (good companies can)
Most people don't really need a light show. If they force the matter, it's not a good idea. ONly if you want it... don't mention it till later when you are asking about pricing.
Do you want the DJ to interact alot with the crowd (Games, etc) or just play music with introductions and announcements?
Cancellation policy.
WRitten contracts signed.
also.. NO ALCOHOL for the DJ's... or smoking breaks... (remember.. this is your wedding day.. and being professional. you don't do it while you're working, so why should anyone else)
Hope this helps..
