Where did you purchase your cardstock for the invitations?  Also, any tips, etc.  I'm planning on making about 150 invitations on my own.  I'm in Winnipeg, MB so if you know of a place here in the city or online I would appreciate it!  Thanks:-)

Hi!
I'm making my own invitations.(I have to make about 100)
I didn't get my paper yet, but plan on just getting it at a local scrapbooking store or craft store.
I'm printing one up on my computer and then taking them to Staples to get photocopied.
One piece of advice I have is, make sure you find your envelopes BEFORE you buy all the paper and such. I had to change the color of my invites (fortunately I hadn't bought the paper yet) because I couldn't find matching envelopes for my original color.
It's more work to make your own, but I think it will definately be worth it and everyone will appreciate all the effort you put into them!

I went to Staples and they had a table with some examples.  The girl did me some photocopies for witch type I would like best.

I bought some nice paper but I'm stuck with it since I did not have matching envelops.

I did look around they some stores that have the stationary with the envelopes.

I did them on my PC and will be printing them myself.

Alright, maybe this question is dumb... but what part of your envelope matches the invitation?  Are you talking about the inner lining?

Also, where did you get envelopes?

Originally I wanted to do my invites in a slightly off white color. But my invites are square and I couldn't find square envelopes in that color.(I couldn't really fine ANY envelopes in that color)
So now my invites are going to be plain white cause I found square white envelopes through an invitation company. (Canadian Wedding Treasures). I'm not getting my envelopes lined. Just leaving them white.
Sometimes I wish I had just ordered mine, but in the end I think I'll be happy with them!

We got our paper from Micheals (craft type store). It was a kit type thing, then we designed out own invites to print on the invitations out of the kit.

Reason we got the kit was so we had the inviations, envelopes etc......I found some pics on line and designed some then DH put it together so it would fit on the invitations.

We had Egyptian Hieroglyphs spelling LOVE across the top of the invites and such...

good luck it is really not that hard

I have a few pieces of advice:

-If you're cutting your own paper, invest in the following 3 items: 1. a cutting matte (usually dark-ish green with yellow or white grid lines), 2. an X-Acto knife, 3. a steel, cork-back ruler.  These three things will make your cuts perfect... NO pair of scissors can do the same thing!!!!

-If you're printing on your ink-jet printer on vellum, set the printer to 'overhead transparencies' or whatever word(s) your printer driver uses to describe overhead projector sheets.

-Choose your envelope shape/size/colour FIRST, then the rest.  So many brides on here have made beautiful invites, then have not been able to find envelopes to hold them... not in any colour...  -Remember that you don't have to make an invite for each person, only for each family, couple or single person... buy extra paper, but not one unit per person.

- **** Canada Post will not handle any mail smaller than 14 x 9 cm, so keep this in mind when making RSVP cards and choosing envelopes  ****  Also, the address should not be in a script-like font, Canada Post's machines can't read stuff like that.  use Arial, Times New Roman, or the likes if you type the address... or hand print in block letters... also, use black or dark blue ink, nothing metallic (often done on dark-coloured envelopes) to write addresses, the machines can't read that either... choose a light colour for your envelopes, even if the invite isn't the same colour.

-----------------

My cardstock/paper/envelopes all came from the company Artoz, from the UK, available at stationary stores in Canada, and some art stores.  The paper for the stars in the centrepeices is from an art store in Germany.  The 'brads', little metal things holding the invites together, are from loomis Art Store, in the scrapbooking section.  My velum is from Loomis also, and came in 8.5 x 11' sheets, I cut it myself.  The cardstock came pre-cut, and is usually sold open stock, so you can buy as much or as little as you want.  This is a great Uk web site if you want to see the entire selection:
