Our dj is being served dinner with us and is pretty pricey to begin with but I am not sure what the norm is for dj service, do you still tip him because he/she is providing a service?

I have also heard, if he is the business owner you do not tip, just curious on what is appropriate.

Thanks

our DJ runs his own business, was very moderately priced, returned e-mails promptly, did everything we asked and our guests loved him.  he had the dance floor packed all night and a year later people still make comments about what a good job he did and how much fun they had dancing.  we tipped him.  it was a personal choice.

i think if you love your DJ and he's fantastic, then if you want to, tip him regardless if he's the owner or not.  a small bonus for doing a better than expected job is always nice IMO.  it's up to you though.  i probably wouldn't feel obligated to tip.
