Yah I am definately not a fan of long waits in between especially if your an out of country guest. We will be having cocktails and trays of nibblers for guest to busy themselves before our entrance.

I'm with you Jadefleur,

We want our ceremony/reception all in the same place and we are planning to have our cocktail hour after the ceremony where we will mingle for a bit before going to get our photos taken. I've thought of keeping our guests busy with some activities like bocce ball or horseshoes  while we are off getting photos.

If you don't have budget for drinks/food perhaps you'd consider having an afternoon tea party where you would cut your cake after your ceremony (rather than after dinner) then leave tyour guests to mingle providing only tea/coffee and maybe non-alcoholic punch?

We have a few hours b/w our ceremony and reception, and I am not planning anything for in between.  There is quite a bit of stuff around and our wedding is on a Friday so everything will be open.  They can amuse themselves

I'm till wondering this as well... what we are going to have. Our ceremony and reception is in the same building so we will easily have the ceremony, and then open up the reception. There will be favors on the table and table numbers and something telling people which table they are at. Anyone not in the pictures can have some coffee, mingle with some nice music in the background.. find their seats and get situated.

We don't have a lot of young guests, so that's not much of an issue.. and anyone in our family will be coming with us.. which is like half the people.. lol!

Personally I don't want people in the hall before they are supposed to be in the hall either. I will have tables set up the way I want them with special things per person. I don't want people just sitting where ever and I want my ushers to show the guests where they are sitting. I guess that is just the control freak in me.
