when they don't actually plan on coming!
ARG!!!

I know this is pretty common, but come on people, don't call 5 days before. 7 people now can't make it, and they have super lame reasons, like 1 couple said they decided to go camping instead, and guest, who ownes his own business and never works saturdays, decided today that he's going to work, our ceremony doesn't start til 6:30pm!

I'm just p!ssed cause we don't have tones of money and we have already paid for those guests so there goes almost $500 that I could have used for something else.

I guess Im just worried that I'm going to have a lame wedding and that no one is gonna dance and everyone's gpnna leave early. I've just put some much time, tears, and effort into this day I just don't want it to suck.

I can guarentee you that your wedding will not be lame. People will dance! Some will leave early and some will stay until the very end! Your tears, and efforts will be worth it in the end. Your wedding won't suck!

We had the same problem with DH's family/friends changing their minds and deciding not to come. One family (3 people) left after the salad, some other friends left before dinner even started, and our Bishop and his wife left right after the ceremony instead of staying for dinner. You can't be right on- some who said they wouldn't be there might come, and some who said they would still might not show up. You win some, and lose some- I'd try not to worry about it- Be happy!

That's pretty rude ... we didn't have this happen with anyone ... I wouldn't think it's common?

ETA:  Rude of the people who RSVP'ed yes and are now calling to say no, 7 days out.

We had one family (Dh's side) do that.  They never RSVPd, there was 4 of them in total, but DH talked to them and they assured us they were coming, even though they were from OOT.  And 2 days befroe the wedding, SURPRISE, they're not coming.

It sucks, but unfortunately it happens.

My Mom got married 3 years ago and sent her FHs nephew & wife an invitation, they RSVP'd for 7 (they have 5 kids). She was a bit upset about it but decided to let it go. The day of the wedding, they DIDN'T even show up! She never got a card, an apology, nothing.

We had a few people reply that they were coming and then within a few days of the wedding weren't able to make it, some for legitimate reasons (a fall on the ice and injury) and one for a piss-poor reason (trying to quit smoking and it would be too hard to be at a party - duh....there's no smoking in the hall).....it is unfortunate that we have to absorb the cost of last minute cancellations, but what can you do.
