I got a solemenization of marriage after the ceremony and checked with city hall today about having my name changed and they said that I have to wait 2 months before I can apply for the marriage certificate and only then can I start to change my topics....is this correct? I live in Mississauga.

You can apply for the certificate now but they won't process it for 2 months.

So far I've only needed the certificate to change my license

In Ontario I was told I have to wait 90 days before ordering the marriage certificate.  Like the previous poster said though I think you only need it for government name changes like licence and health card.

I used my record of soleminization to change everything..   i never needed the official certificate..   I was able to change my drivers license, health card, sin..  etc etc..

It was the same way the first time I got married over 20 years ago..

I only needed the official certificate to get my divorce.. lol

I got married on June 7th  and after I got back from my honeymoon I went on line and ordered it ( got married in Ontario)  and I received it in the mail yesterday-  much quicker than I thought.

I have been told I need it to change almost everything.

June 7, 2008 is the day all my dreams came true

How long was it from the time you apply to when you received it in the mail?

I waited a month after the wedding to apply (the rebel that I am ) and I received my marriage certificate about 2 weeks or so later.  I was soooo surprised that it arrived so quickly.

I was only able to change my health card with the part of the license the priest gave us (oh and the bank accepted it to change the name on my accounts and my visa).

I live in Ontario as well.
