The record of solemnization is the little paper you get the day you are married.  Here in Ontario, we have to wait 3 months before applying for the wedding certificate.

You don't have to wait. I applied 2 days after our wedding, but it won't be processed to 8 weeks after our wedding day. Then they will send it.

How did you apply online? Because the website does say that you are suppose to wait for your marriage to be registered before applying..

I was wondering about this too.... I thought that you had to wait 90 days.... we do not have the paper from our day as our best man lost it.... but the person that married us said we do not nee it and gave me the numbers on it... anyone know about that?

Our Minister told us several times "Not to lose that paper" cause there is only one original, and you need that original to make a copy to send to the Registrar in order to get your Marriage Certificate.  so -- not sure -- but i think you do need the paper.??

Married on 06/07/08!  The most PERFECT day!!

How does this process work. I'm not sure what to do. I've been reading on the gov't site that it could take 10-16 weeks for the registration of the marriage license to be processed do i have to wait before i apply for the certificate or can i start the process now? I'm confused about this process.

and just to add...we were also told by our Minister to wait 10-12 weeks before applying for the marriage certificate - you don't "have" to wait - but if the registrar's office is back-logged, it generally takes them about that long to register your marriage, and if they receive your paperwork requesting a marriage certificate, but your marriage hasn't been "registered" with them yet - they'll just send you back all your paperwork saying to re-send it later.

so i think the 'waiting' period is just to avoid the hassle of them sending your stuff back to you un-registered.   who knows!! it's confusing.  but i'm just going to wait about 12 weeks from date of my wedding, then apply.

Married on 06/07/08!  The most PERFECT day!!

I got my marriage certificate yesterday (exactly one month after the wedding)!  I went to the Vital Statistics office (in Halifax) and filled out the form, the lady told me that she would check to see if it was registered yet, as sometimes it takes a while if there were alot of weddings and births to register.  It was registered and I had the certificate within 5 minutes!!
