| Speaking from experience, I would say that if you have made it this far without using one, don't start now. My guy never took to one (and we tried, believe me). He would just spit them out, so we stopped trying, and now we are so grateful that we never had to wean him off of the things.

I read someplace that a soother is better than letting them finger or thumb suck b/c you can take the soother away when it's time to wean them because of tooth development. I don't know, this is my first baby

I don't know, this is my first baby My guy never took a soother, and he never became a finger sucker...sometimes he would have his fingers in his mouth, but that was usually when he was teething. It hasn't been a problem otherwise...never sucked his thumb or anything like that. He's 2 now...maybe we were just lucky, I don't know.
