| Ok. So has anyone seen that commercial (can't remember what it's for) with the two grandfathers visiting their new baby grandson in the hospital - one brings in a small teddy bear so the other goes and buys a bigger one and they keep competing and the bears get bigger and bigger until one of them actually shows up IN a bear costume?? That's my mom and fh's mom right now. It's ridiculous. Now. I'm not complaining because man oh man is our lo getting some nice stuff but they're competing like mad for most gifts purchased or most spent on gifts or something. It's crazy. My mom started out with just wanting to buy us a crib and stroller. Which she actually decided against. So she bought us a crib bedding set. It was like 350 dollars. And she wasn't exactly silent about the cost. So then fh's mom bought bags and bags of clothes going from infant to 9 months. And wasn't exactly silent about the cost. Then my mom decides to buy us our cloth diapers. 24 Bum Genius diapers (like a trillon bajillion dollars). Then fmil decides this weekend to clear out her best friend's sisters BRAND NEW (practically - even still had all the boxes/bags) left over baby stuff. All from boutique stores. SO she bought us a bassinette, change table, tummy tub, a load of toys/gym things, a peg perego car seat...a bunch of stuff. My mom's going to be so unimpressed lol. WHY OH WHY are they competing???????????? I don't get it. I really don't. Anyone else dealing with this?

I have a feeling that's what's going to happen with my mom and MIL! It happended with the wedding and since we told them both that we're expecting they've already both made comments about eachother already. I say enjoy it Baby stuff is ridiculously expensive so let them war it out with gifts! Now later on when your child is older it may cause some spoiling issues but I would enjoy it for now!

I think it's a "grandma" thing... one always feels that they are more special than the other for some reason. We also had this issue... we have so much stuff. I finally had to put my foot down and speak to both of them about it. I have baby things in every single room and closet of my house... no joke.

Mine are like that too, but it's not with gifts (well mil it is) it's with attention and who the baby is like more. My om only thinks the baby acts and looks like her side of the family and my mil thinks he looks and acts like her side of the family. It's nuts I tell you -- I think one day they will have a huge cat fight because they want to be the "best" grandma... It's pretty funny seeing them together because they both get so anxious when the other one is holding/playing with Oli ad then try to take him away.

I don't have this issue at all. My mom and MIL get along very well and they both do what they can each afford to do. My MIL is much more well off than my mom but my mom helps a lot in so many other ways. She's purchased almost just as much as my MIL and I am so appreciative of that because she is a widow and only has so much! She does everything else though....washed all the baby clothes for me, custom cut the drapery (she's a seamstress) helped clean my house etc.... I love them dearly and would hate to have them compete over mine or my baby's attention. I hope your situation gets better!
