Hi Ladies!

Can anyone who recently got married tell me how they took their dress - as carryon? I don't want to put it in my luggage now put it with luggage, I want to keep it close : ) I was curious if the airlines will give me a hard time or if their will be any additional cost/arrangement for it.  Any suggestions, ideas would be appreciated.  Thanks so much : )

Hello,

You can go to your airline's website to find out information about their carry-on restrictions, however, almost all airlines I've heard of will allow the wedding dress to be an additional carry-on (in addition to your purse and carry-on bag) free of charge! That's what I did with Air Transat, and had no problems. They had no room in the closet so I did have to put it in the overhead bin, but it was not a problem.

The flight attendants told me I couldn't however one really niec one actually hung it behind the pilots chair, lol.  When we landed he announced, "can someone please get this monstrocity of a wedding dress out of my **** pit" it was priceless.  I believe some airline have a special "closet" for the dresses but most say "no" unless you push and push for it.  Good luck, but be prepared in case you have to stow (sp) it in the overhead.

We were flying with air canada and had no problem with the carry one , on top of it there were 2 dresses in the closet so don't worry i am sure they won't make a big deal

all the best

I was lucky and had my mom carry it for me as her carry-on . When I was checking in the lady at the desk for AirTransat was really nice and told me she would have let me on with it as well as my dress but I think that is a rare scenario she even let me get through without charging me for my extra weight in my suitcase.

we flew west jet and they let me take my dress on plus my cary-on.  they also let my husband take his suit on board in addition to his carry-on.  the only stipulation was that we had to put them in the over head.  we got emergency exit seating and the nice flight attendants put my dress up with the blankets and pillows.

i would deffinately contact the airline before hand just to make sure.  once you have your flight number you can ask them to put a note on your file about the dress so you dont have to worry about running into any trouble at the airport.

good luck!
