Hi everyone. I am new to the talk boards. I introuduced myself in the Wedding Planning board. But I'm Diane, and from Hamilton, FH and I got engaged on Christmas Eve/night!
FH and I are planning to use Carmen's as our venue but it is soooooooooo HARD to get a hold of anyone there we were dealing with PJ and we send emails and phone calls but haven't heard anything... We started talking to them last year but things got put on hold since I was donating a kidney to my brother but we are hoping to have a final date this week!We also have used Olympia for our son's baptism, they were exceptional!!! BUT not so very friendly the second time around when we wanted to book with them for our wedding reception so my question is how did everyone find the difference between Carmen's and Olympia Banquet Centre???? Don't get me wrong but I just found them to be a little "quiet" and not willing to make things work for us... I don't want to say very much but if someone could shine some light or thoughts/suggestions I would appreciate it. We love both Carmen's and Olympia but are torn. Thanks Diane

We met with the Olympia but they were not really able to make things work with our budget but I have attend a number of weddings and was the MOH at a wedding held there and I must say, they were all great.
We just met with Carmen's in the last few weeks, we met with the owner and he was great, the venue is beautiful. The numbers he has given us are still a bit more then we had planned on spending but they also said they can make something more in our budget.
We are going to think about it for a few weeks and talk to a few other places (Marquis Garden, Grand Olympia (new, but owned by the Olympia in Stoney Creek, was Chandler Place)

| I was recently married in June and we had our reception at Carmen's. We booked there because my now husband is a Fire Fighter and they hold thier "Hot night in the City" fashion show there every year and we thought it would be a nice place to go. (Neither one of us is from Hamilton, so we didn't know many places to choose from) It started out well, we started all our planning with Georgie. She's super nice, and loved my then-fiance. We then had our Sample Meal in May. DID NOT GO WELL!!!!!! They served us meat that tasted like a tv dinner. They forgot our charger plates. They forgot our chicken entree. And the dessert was crap. The person on duty that night (Debbie.....beware of her) that was supposed to go over all the details and fix whatever was wrong was totally rude. We brought our parents along, and all six of us couldn't belive her tone and rudeness. She left us waiting there for over an hour. We complained, and didn't seem to get anywhere. We were dealing with the owners son, PJ Mercanti. After much complaining and discussion about the service we had received, he finally helped us out. The reception, which we thought was going to be the easiest thing in our plans, turned out to be the most stressful. PJ ended up being our Maitre D, and we had a great night. Took a little work to get thru to them, but we had fun.

To be honest I don't really like either. my moms one request for the wedding is for me to NOT go to Carmen's. she has had problems there, though I have never personally talked to them because they aren't even on my list as a potential place (totally opposite of what I am looking for in a venue) However I did have a prom at Olympia and it was ok. but then that's prom and years ago.

| I had my reception @Oakville Conf Centre, and Carmen's caters for them. The wedding dinner was awesome, and the tasting went great too....I am still getting compliments to this day about the service, dinner & the venue! I hope it works out for you.

We are having ours wedding at Carmen's. They are giving us the most bang for out buckAnd yes you are completly right, PJ (he is the son of the owner) is very hard to get ahold of. We first talked to PJ when we were first looking at places, he is the one who gave us the prices, but one it got busy with weddings it was hard to get him on the phone, so he told me to talk to Gorgie (lady)and she is the one who helps us now. When you call ask if you can speak to someone else because PJ has not gotten back to you. Good Luck!
