| I am getting married on the 16th at my fiance's parents' house on a lake. I don't think it was any more stress than it would have been had we rented a hall. We did rent a big tent though, in case it rains, but luckily it looks like we will just use it for shade. The wedding is super casual, though, and people are still amazed at how non-stressed I am (I have also only had 6 weeks to plan). Anyhow, do what you want to do...I had my heart set on getting married and having the reception outside, so that's what I did...if it rains, that's ok. I like rain anyway. But if you really think it is going to stress you out, you can always rent the hall as backup and only use it if it rains.

| The only real big annoyance I found when I first started planning and wanted an outdoor reception...is the cost. You would have to rent tables, chairs, lighting, a sound system, and the caterers would have to have somewhere to set up, and get eveything ready...for me, it would have been a logistical nightmare...I wanted to have the least amount of vendors possible... Although, if money is no object to you...an outdoor reception can be very pretty, and as long as you have lots of help to set up, it's definitely do-able. Good luck

| My friends got married outdoors in her parents backyard a couple of years ago. It was a nice wedding, even though it rained that day (they did have a tent for the dinner and dance, but were able to delay the actual ceremony until there was a break in the rain). The biggest problem they ran into was that the police came shortly after 11 because of a noise complaint. Although they invited the immediate neighbours, and told most of the people in the neighbourhood (they live in a hamlet outside Waterloo), someone still called the cops and complained, so the volume of the music was turned way down.

I am having an outdoor ceremony and indoor reception. Reasons for me to go against an outdoor reception is cost. A tent alone was over $4000 and that didn't include any of the stuff. Also for me I live in rural Manitoba and we get A LOT of mosquitoes. I swell up awful when I get a bite and I knew I would not enjoy dancing if I was getting eaten alive. BUT it is your wedding and outdoor receptions are gorgeous. Good luck with your choice.
When the friends are gone
When the party's over
We will still belong
To each other.

| I always imagined that my wedding would be outside. I looked into having it at my parents place since they have a big beautiful yard but got a bit overwhelmed with all of the "stuff" (i.e. finding an outside caterer, renting tables, tents, washrooms, etc.). Also, while I love my mother dearly (seriously, she's the best!) we have very different ideas about what the "perfect" wedding would look like and having it at her home would mean giving up way more control than a control-freak like me is able to do. So, I started looking at campground locations. We are getting married at Wilderness Tours (http://www.wildernesstours.com/adventure.php?page_id=134). They have a big covered pavilion for the dinner and they will supply the food, tables, waiters, bar, etc. I'm hoping that it will be a big, casual, weekend-long party. Just something to think about...

I did an outdoor reception and i wouldn't of done it any other way.
For a hall, what do you pay? ( i don't know cuz i never even considered doing an indoor reception).
For ALL my rentals... which included 3 tents, tables chairs, linens, etc. etc. portable bars, dance floor, lighting. portapotties... was...
$5500 This is only the center tent, there are tents to the sides as well.
and then you can get a private caterer.... For 150 people i got a full dinner for $5000
