The day after my fiancee and I got officially engaged my dad was diagnosed with abdominal cancer ... he'll be starting chemo in a few weeks.

We thought that instead of engagement photos it would be really nice to take some family portraits... so I asked our wedding photographer if it was possible. It turns out she's part of a not -for-profit group called "Smiling Eyes" -- it's a group of photographers who take family photos free of charge for families touched by cancer!

We have our shoot set up for Sept. 14th -- but I thought I'd share with all of you incase you know someone who might benifit from this awesome group of people!!

Here's the website:

Crystal thank you for that post. I volunteer for a non-profit cancer support center and I will be sure to post this on our boards!

My dad was diagnosed with colon cancer three years ago and we consider ourselves lucky b/c he is cancer-free today.

Wow.  What an amazing way to touch families.

We did a family portrait at our wedding with my grandfather.  He has multiple myeloma and wasn't supposed to make it to Christmas 06 let alone our Oct 07 wedding.  It hangs proudly above my Grandparents fireplace and it all of our living rooms.
