Here's my vendor review for our August 9, 2008 wedding in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Reception - Inn at the Forks - 10/10
The Inn at the Forks was AMAZING. The location was beautiful. The rooms were spacious. And the service was above and beyond what I was expecting. From the first meeting to the follow-up email I received on Monday - I have not one bad thing to say. I couldn't ask for more from them. They made sure absolutely every need was taken care of.
Ceremony - Oodena Celebration Circle (The Forks) - 10/10
Again, a beautiful location that worked just perfectly for our wedding. The location had a built in speaker system, and someone came and hooked up the mixer for us which allowed us to use a microphone so all our guests could hear. It was really very simple to coordinate, which made me nervous at first, but worked out really well.
Marriage Commissioner - Monique Grabowski (Lady Commissioner) - 10/10
WOW! Monique is WONDERFUL! We visited her at her home several times to plan the ceremony and fill out the application for marriage license (awesome that she took care of that for us). Both she and her husband are super friendly people and we spent quite a bit of time chit chatting with them. She wrote a wonderful ceremony and included (or removed) whatever we wanted. Too bad weddings aren't a repeat business because Monique would DEFINITELY get my business again! haha
Flowers - King's Florist - 10/10
Dale at King's Florist could read my mind - or so it seemed! I'm not a creative artsy kind of person so I did my best to describe to her what I wanted... and she far exceeded my expectations. The only thing I knew for sure what I wanted was my bouquet (and my sister's bouquet) and she nailed them perfectly. There was a bit of confusion when they were delivered to the Inn at the Forks, but we still had them in time, so I don't dock any marks. I don't think it was their fault anyway.
Dress - Waves Bridal (eBay) - 10/10
Got the dress for about 1/3 of what the bridal salons wanted and it came within a few weeks. I scored big time there! Luckily MIL did all the alterations and steaming, so I didn't have to worry about who was going to take care of all that.
Cake - Chocolate Zen - 10/10
Doug is AMAZING. Our first visit, we met with Betty, whom I really didn't care to work with... but I emailed Doug specifically after that and we only met with him from that point on. He envisioned something beautiful and it was exactly what we wanted. He loves to be creative - says he likes a challenge! The different flavours were incredible.
Wedding Planner - Moments Wedding & Event Planning - 7/10
I'm all over the place when it comes to Tracy at Moments. I worked with her very well, but there were a few key things that cause me to drop the score a bit. I found it very hard to find time to get together with her, particularly in the week before the wedding when it was most important. We found a 45 minute window when we were both available - but she was 25 minutes late for the meeting. So our final "nail down the details" meeting was only 20 minutes - definitely not enough. Also, at the rehearsal she offered to take over the table place cards since I had run out of time. But instead she sat with a list of people's names and they had to ask her where they were sitting. Not quite what I was looking for. The other item that we actually received a few complaints about was her attitude at the wedding - she was very brash with people and sometimes comes off as if she thinks what you're saying is stupid. Unfortunately, a few people mentioned this, so I can't ignore it even if I didn't have a problem with it. All that said, she's very talented and was a life saver the day of the wedding and for all the linens.
Rentals - Party Stuff/U-Rent It - 10/10
We changed our order a few times and they were very accommodating about it. Even though we dropped the number of chairs we ordered the day before the wedding, they still credited the amount back to us.
Rings - Vandenberg's Fine Jewelry - 10/10
I could go on and on about how wonderful Vandenberg's is. Peter Vandenberg designed my engagement ring and Colin Loepp designed my wedding ring. Every time we go in there we're treated like royalty. I can't say enough about the wonderful level of service they provided and the product itself was even better than what we were looking for. I highly, highly recommend.
Hair - Johanna @ Fazes Hair Studio - 10/10
Johanna is my good friend, so she came to the Inn at the Forks to do my hair. I am not sure, but I believe she would do this for larger bridal parties. At any rate, Johanna is the only person I let touch my hair - cuts, colours, styles. She's my girl and she's never let me down.
Makeup - Jen @ Make Up on the Go - 10/10
Jen did a fantastic job with myself, my mom and my sister. She was a little late the day of the wedding, but again there was a bit of a communication error. It didn't push our schedule back at all.
Men's Wear - Romalo Fracassi - 10/10
We knew we'd end up spending a lot, because this is an Italian's men's shop. But we had the suit made to measure, which means it was sewn for DH's every measurement. And WOW it was definitely worth it. He looked amazing - incredibly flattering.
