Hello ladies,

I have a huge problem! I booked with a florist a few months ago. She gave me a price breakdown in terms of - how much the bouquet would cost, centerpieces etc. She never indicated how many flowers that would include per arrangement and stupid me never thought to ask.

Well, I went for my centerpiece trial and although it looked nice, I didn't feel that I could justify the price at over $100/ centerpiece (which BTW is over budget) for the amount of flowers included - (aprrox. 3 hydrangeas, 7 roses, 3 calla lillies and some banana leaves - I provided the vase (aprrox. $30/ each, the floralytes, and gel) so basically, I'm being charge $70.00 for the arrangement.

My mom and I have been talking to another florist who will be doing my staircase (with fresh flowers), pew arrangements, and the boutineers and corsages for the guests. When I told her how much the other florist is charging me, she told me that for what I am getting, she would only charge $30-35.00, not $70.00. She told me I am being ripped off and that I need to verify the quantity of flowers for the other arrangements.  Basically, I could save almost $3000.00.

Now, I read the contract I have with the other florist and it states "Contract balance may not be changed 90 days prior to contract date." Well the wedding is in 47 days. Sounds stupid but I am not sure what exactly this means (i.e/ what if I choose to reduce the # of arrangements at this point, will I still have to pay for the ones I no longer need?" I know these are questions for the florist and I am meeting with her this week. I am hoping for some opinions/ suggestions on how to handle this before I meet with her. Any input is greaty appreciated!!!!

I'm really not sure how to handle it, but I would try to make it clear that you're still using her services, and avoid mentioning the other florist.  She may feel like you went behind her back and/or you're stepping on toes, and may retaliate somehow (even subtly).  JMO.

I agree with PP, she is still getting some business from you, but I would firmly tell her you are NOT happy with the centerpieces, if she wants customers  happy she will either accomodate you or let you go to the other florist to save face.

I would tell her you have been getting quotes for the same style/flowers and the prices you are getting are way below hers.

She can either put more flowers in or lower the price, or maybe she can include more flowers in other places or let you rent other items to equal out the cost and make it more fair.

There is nothing wrong with bargaining when you already have a contract in place, customer satisfaction is #1, you are not being unreasonable.

i would let her know you are concerned with the quantity of flowers and you were under the impression you would get 70 dollars worth of flowers and work......considering you supplied the other stuff....maybe ask her to supply you with a break down of how she got 70 dollars because you are a little concerned...
