| The one thing that no one has said is.... once you buy your dress... STOP LOOKING AT DRESSES!!!!! or you will second guess yourself. There are so many beautiful gowns out there.. Nothing wrong with shopping early as long as you find "your" dress and don't wish you would have waited! I looked for a few months, bought my dress in March 08 I think... I'm getting married in September 08. My dress just came in last week... so took about 6 months.

I'm getting married in October and ordered my dress last October, although my weight barely fluctuates so that wasn't a concern. I was more afraid of waiting too long and having the dress I loved discontinued, get lost, wrong size/color or any other problem lol.

I bought my dress in March, and got married at the end of May
It was plenty of time for alterations and to find a veil and shoes.

It depends, are you wanting to order it, or are you going to try to find an "off the rack" dress? Some dresses you have to order at least 6 months in advance to get it in time for your wedding, while others you can order as little as 2-3 months before.
