O.k., I need a root canal done bad! It hurts soooo much.  I went to the dentist yesterday and had it looked at and stuff.

Oh maybe I should give you some back ground info.... I am petrified of the dentist! Normally when I go they phone in a Ativan prescription for me and I take litterally 6 of them to make myself so loopy its unbelievable.

Well, because of how I can't take that amount of ativan they are going to send me to a specialist that does the root canal with all laser treatments, no needles no nothing...... but for the pain in the meantime they said I can take tylenol, extra strength tylenol, or T 3's     I don't think I wana take those medications being in my first trimester and I don't know what harm it can do.

Can someone please shed a little light on this for me... what can I take for the pain????? What wont harm the baby?????

With my last pregnancy, I was told that tylenol was safe to take during pregnancy.  I had to take a few b/c I suffer from migraines and that is what my dr. recommended I take.  I also had an ear infection and again that is what I took in addition to antibiotics (which I was told was safe also).

Good luck with your root canal.

I feel your pain!  I went over a year with a whole in my tooth because I was afraid to go to the dentist!  My midwife told me that Advil was safe in the first 2 trimesters, like PP I suffer from migraines, and Advil extra strength liquid gels are the only thing that help.  She said I had to stop taking them in the third trimester.

My MW said Advil was a big no, but that tylenol was ok, even extra strength.

I had heard that Advil was a No-no as well, but the MW told me that it's on the no no list because it's not good to take in your third trimester, but they would rather just ban it all together instead of causing any possible confusion.  This is exactly why it's best to talk to your Dr.... or better yet, call Motherrisk.  They'll let you know for sure.

I suffer from migranes and have been told I can take tylenol or extra strength tylenol.  I heard Advil is a no no because it can do something to the babys heart valves.
