Hello all

I'm getting married August 22, 2009. We booked the Museum of Science and Technology in Ottawa Ontario. We met in our Engineering degrees in Uni and I'm now a teacher of computer science and mathematics. So we figured it would be perfect. Plus he's so into it and what gal wouldn't love her guy to be into the location?

But now...everything else. I'm suddenly realizing I'm a year away and needing to book things but feeling the "how should I know this early?" overwhelming stress.

Has anyone heard of Prinzo Fine Caterering? Opinions?

Does anyone have DJ recommendations?

Those are my current stresses. Plus, the museum is very expensive to rent ($3000) so I'm trying to cut costs everywhere else, but still have a nice wedding. Any suggestions?

Feeling alone...
Jacqueline

That is an AWESOME venue!!!  What part of the museum will you be using for the ceremomy?  I used to take my kids there all the time when they were younger.

I haven't heard of that caterer, but I'm also not using a caterer (most likely) so I can't help there.

As for DJ's, when I was on the students association in university, we always used Quality Entertainment for our formal balls.  We were always very happy with them   Mind you, they gave us a deal and it wasn't a wedding, so it will probably cost more than what it cost us, but they were always very good.  Couldn't hurt to call and ask about prices

Nice to see more Ottawa brides on here lately   I was starting to feel like the only one!  lol

Hey

I just got married a couple weeks ago. I'm another Ottawa bride. My DJ ruined my wedding. His name is Giles Chamberland. He is a complete idiot. I don't think he is even a dj. I don't recommend him.

My caterer was only for snacks like sandwiches etc. I used La Cuisine Jean Bernard. They were good and really really inexpensive.

My photographer was AMAZING. DH and I loved him. His name is Francesco Maragoni. I totally recommend him.

I rented my linens from Chez Lili. Great prices there as well.

Thats all I can think of right now...

Hey

I rented my linens from Chez Lili. Great prices there as well.

I was an Ottawa bride too! I would also reccomend Chez Lili, I rented some decorations from them. Good service, they delivered and picked up on time, and great prices

Happily married July 29, 2007

I am kind of an Ottawa bride! I live in Ottawa, but I am getting married in the Niagara region.

One local recommendation I can make is The Paper Sudio on Carling near Churchill for invitations. They have been super to work with and they are very creative. They will do anything you need or want them to do. And they are FAST. I highly recommend them. We considered making our invitations ourselves, but once we figured out how much time it would take and factored in what our time is worth, it was way cheaper to have them made.

Of course I would recommend FH for photography, but I fully disclose my bias there...;-) His web site is http://www.blairgable.com

Hmmm...I had a really good experience dress shopping at the Cedar Closet in Carleton Place. I didn't buy my dress there, but only becasue I wanted to shop with my family in TO.

I also had my wedding band custom made by a family-owned jewelry store in Renfrew. The price was amazing and he produced exactly what I was looking for.

My save the date magnets were made by cielo print, But I wouldn't really recommend them. The magnets were fine, but because it was a small order we weren't able to get the quality we wanted.

I'll post more if I think of anything.

Marrying the pickiest man in the world...so I guess that's a compliment!

Hello everyone

Thank you so much for all the suggestions and information.

sarahandrob2010: The ceremony will be at the outside train station platform. I plan to decorate it to make it look gazebo like. The reception dinner will be in the Locomotive Hall, and the dance will likely be in the Space Foyer. My rain plan is the Auditorium.
I hear good things about Quality Entertainment, and I hear bad things. One friend of mine had them, and the guy was stoned. He bothered them personality wise, and didn't read the crowd well. Quality can't guarantee anyone (I have recommended names of Djs) so this scares me. They are also $750.

Anik664 and faith87: Thank you for your recommendations! I will definately look into Chez Lili.

BuddyCow: There's a Cedar Closet in Carleton Place? I only know of the one downtown. I'm in love with a beautiful Alfred Angelo dress and am seeking places to find it. So far I'm impressed with Yen's Bridal. And have heard good things about them.
I will check out the Paper Studio too. You're FH does amazing photography, I'd hire him if I didn't already have a close friend doing for free. lol.

--------------------------------------------------------

So we have our venue. We have our photographer. He's a good friend of ours. He's usually the assistant of my friend, but since she's in the wedding party, he's taking out photos. For Free!!! I have my dress picked out, and my bridesmaids dresses (in the Indigo clour). We think we might have settled on a DJ, but I'm waiting back on him answering a few questions. He charges $450, and is a friend of a friend. I've been to a few things he's done, and he's doing a wedding today that a friend is attending so she's going to let me know how it goes. My FH really likes how he sounds.

We both really liked our meeting with Prinzo Fine Catering. I unfortunately have to go with one of 4 caterers as they are the only ones the museum likes (based on credentials and such). But I have a coworker who works for Prinzo too, so she's told me a lot about him. Seems good.

I also have started to think about my favours. I found little train cutouts and was thinking of turning them into Christmas tree ornaments. On one side I'd put my wedding info, and the other side my guests name. Doubles as placeholders! And they cost $0.40 at Michaels!

My good friend took cake decorating lessons and enjoys doing it. I told her if we practice and experiment a bit, I might want her to do my cake. She seems excited about that. She's a mommy on parental leave right now so needs stuff to do while the baby sleeps.

We're trying to get all of our close friends involved in one way or another.

Anyway, thanks again for all the advice. And keep it up! I love hearing what everyone is doing for their wedding in my local area. I'm also not originally from Ottawa, so I know very little local resources.

Jacqueline
