| Hey guys, I had a breast reduction at 18 and the nipple was not removed. I have no problem breast feeding whatsoever.

Stefy0722 (8/21/2008) I had a breast reduction several years ago and I was not able to successfully b/f my lo. I had alot of colostrum come in and my lactation consultant thought I would be able to but I did not have a lot of milk come in. I tried pumping and supplementing with formula as well but that only lasted a couple of weeks. I bottle fed my lo but he has been happy with the formula and has grown beautifully. This is exactly my story! I'm sorry I don't have a positive experience to encourage you... I was disappointed it didn't work but I was very happy that I at least tried my best. I read that if your breasts grow a lot during pregnancy, you have a better chance of BF after birth. Mine almost didn't grow... I changed my bras for more comfortable ones but not because they were too small while most of my friends changed their bras before wearing maternity clothes! I also had a lot of colostrum and pumped for the first few weeks so my lo had BM for the first month which is better than nothing. Even just the colostrum is still a very good start for them. I would say give it a try and if it doesn't work, don't beat yourself. There are also things that you can do to stimulate milk production. You can take fenugreek and blessed thissel (herbs) and domperidone (medication) and have some beer. I tried everything and it still didn't work for me but everyone is different. Good luck!

thank you ladies for the great advice.
I'm not preggo or yet (or ttc) but Its always int he back of my mind. I'm hoping that the fact that i was quite young may have helped with my milk ducts reattatching to the nipple, ok. (i was 19, and went from a G to a DD)

(i was 19, and went from a G to a DD) I read that the longer time since the surgery the better but in my case it didn't do anything. I was 15 when I had the surgery and I'm now 31... hopefully it will be different for you.

I am curious about this too as I had a reduction when I was 21. At the time they said it was a 50/50 chance of being able to bf. I don't have feeling in my left nipple or underneath.
Married the Best Man on Land or Sea on Sept 29/07. Princess Elizabeth Aria arrived on Dec 10/08.
