Any suggestions on how to heal a badly injured nipple? I have no idea what Charlotte is doing differently on the left side, but the nipple will just not get better. The right side is fine, I can nurse with no pain, but my left side causes me so much pain I actually dread feeding. When I met with our health nurse a few days ago, she said to just watch her latch and make sure she doesn't get lazy (when she gets sleepy) and to continue nursing. It hurts so bad I almost start crying when she latches on. It is all bruised and cracked and hurts pretty much ALL the time. I've tried airing it out, using PureLan 100 after every feeding, cold compresses and pumping to give it some relief (all things that worked with my right side) BUT still to no avail. I have no idea what else to do- any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

| When I was dreading feeding and in horrible pain the health nurse gave me a nipple shield to use. It worked great. It still hurt a bit, but not like it had and it didnt take long to heal either. I kept using the lansinoh cream as well. If you have tried everything else I would suggest giving a shield a try. Good luck!!!

When I was in the hospital they told me to express a little bit of milk and rub it around the nipple to help heal the nipple. Sorry that's the only advice I have but hope you find something that relieves some of the pain soon.

I did both of the advice and it healed up nicely. the only other thing I can recommend is to only pump (slathering the nipple with Lansinoh first) the sore boob to give it a break...

At first my DD wrecked both nipples...felt like someone shredding them with razors when I fed her I tried the Lansinoh cream, which did help them feel more comfortable, but what made them HEAL was expressing a little breastmilk, putting it all over the nipple and letting it air-dry. Then I would put just a tiny bit of Lansinoh on every now and then to seal it in. That really worked for me.
Hope you heal soon

| I also used the Lanisoh after my nipples were cracked and bleeding. I too was almost crying. I also made sure the Toby was making a Huuuuuge mouth before letting my latch. It all seemed to get better within about a week. Good luck!

Thanks ladies- I REALLY appreciate your advice. I'm feeding on the right side and pumping the left and i seem to be healing...I think? Todays been a rough day- but I'll try all your tips! My doula is *hopefully* getting me some Fry's Salve or something that she swears by- I'll let you know how it works.
I'm going to try sleeping with the nips exposed tonight...air 'em out good!
