I just got a call from my venue and they asked if we would switch rooms because someone want to have there ceremony and that room is beside ours.

I told them that I did not think we would want to switch. We picked the room because it was more of an intimate hall with sloping ceiling  (we are only having 75-100 people) and we don't want the room to look empty.

After I got off the phone I realized that, I bet the other peoples ceremony will start later like 4:00 or 5:00ish and our cocktail hour will be starting at 5:00 which means our guest and their guest will all be in the same little area and I bet all using our bar.

You dont' have to switch do you??? I mean if it was you calling them to switch, they would probably tell you "no".

If you don't mind switching, they should be able to do something for you, for the inconvenience!

If you are having an open bar I would post up signs with your name on it on your bar so you arent having to pay for their guests drinks.

If it is a pay bar, the guests wouldnt overlap too much would they? I would stick with your room you wanted!

We are having an open bar but we don't want our guest waiting in long lines and we really don't want their guest eating our Hor'dourves during the cocktail hour.

Celtic, I think you should call the venue back and get a clarification on that cocktail hour. I would be a little upset if that were happening to me (eating our hors d'oevres, etc.) They may not be, but just be sure. Hope everything works out for you.

Do you know who booked first?  You or them?  If you booked first, you should not have to move.  I'm flabergasted that the hall would even call and ask you that.

If they force the issue more, tell them, you will move, but you want a discount or something to compenstate for the inconvience.  Find a way to benefit yourself while doing them a favor.
