I just posted in the book thread about a book I'm reading:

And was wondering if anyone had read it or better yet, if anyone had tried this method.

It has a fantastic history of birthing through the ages, and discusses in detail why in some parts of the world, women seem to breeze through labor, while others have such a rough time of it.

Some parts seem a little exagerated to me, but alot of it is informative.

It describes how to visualise your birthing (kinda like an athelete does visualisations before a big competition), how to breathe and how to stay calm during labor.

Don't get me wrong, I'm ALL FOR EPIDURALS, but maybe these techniques could be helpfull for the begining stages of labor?

Any thoughts?

This is going to be dumb, but is hypnobirthing and hypnobabies (www.hypnobabies.com) the same thing?

Fascha, I'd love to read your response too, it sounds very interesting but I wonder how well it really works!

MEB -- I'm so excited you posted this!! My sister did this for her last birth, a water (home) birth with a doula and midwives...she RAVES about it! I can get more info if you want! She ordered an online course thingie that actually teaches you techniques to relax...and instead of feeling "pain" they teach you to think of your cervix as "opening" instead...and that you aren't' feeling pain, you are feeling PRESSURE...she just totally, totally raves about how awesome the experience was! (3rd baby)
