Wondering if anyone owns a Britax car seat & if so, how do you feel about it?  We need to upgrade our infant car seat as LO just doesn't fit it very well anymore.  Once he needs to be wearing a jacket, the straps just won't fit across him.  We were looking at the Britax front/rear facing car seat at Toys r us, but it's around $300.  Wanted to get some feedback before spending that kind of money.

I don't own a britax because my four year old was unable to fit into it. However, the Compass true fit just became available in Canada last month and I bought one for each of my kids the day that they were released.

Same features as a britax with the 5 point harness up to 65lbs however my (huge) 4 year old fits in it without a problem and even has room to spare.

Another HUGE benefit with the Compass is that it has "easy adjust" and easy wash features. I can put any child in the seat without having to re do all of the straps!

Compass is apparently a leader in new tech. with their products which is easy to see with this new seat! I am soooooo happy I made this purchase! My son should be able to be in this seat for at least another year or two Yes he will be 6 in a 5 point harness...but he will be safe!

I will post a few links and you can check out the seat. If I remember correctly there are only 3 companies (for Canada) that make the 5 point harness beyond 40lbs... Britax, Sunshine kids, and Compass!

We went with the True Fit as well...and looooooooove it! It's super comfy, and my very tall DD fits wonderfully in it. I can't say enough good things about it.

It installs like a dream too!

ETA: I got it on sale at Toys R Us online for $149. They were also recently on sale at Zellers for that much. Can't beat that price!!

Our lo has been in the Britax marathon since he was 6 months old.  He found the infant car seat too confining and after researching carseats we went with the Marathon.

My only complaint about the carseat is that it is very large and bulky in the back seat but I have no complaints about the actual seat itself.  Sebastian is comfortable and safe in the chair which were the most important factors for DH and I when selecting a new car seat for him.

Once in awhile, right in the middle of an ordinary life,

love gives us a fairytale.

Great question!

Did you see DogMelissa's post on safety stuff? There was a link to some great youtube videos about the 5-point harnesses. Totally made up my mind about them.

I'll be curious to see what others have to say about the britax and the Compass.

Toby is now 25 inches long and about 16 pounds and I don't think he'll be in the infant seat too much longer, especially with his winter clothes on.

I wish there was some real help at BabiesRUs. Everyone time I go there I have a 16 year old helping me and they don't know anything. Not the kind of help I'm looking for when I'm buying a safety item!

We have the Britax Marathon and we love it.  So does the baby... car rides are no longer a chore.  It has quick adjust straps and plenty of room for him to flop his arms and wiggle his little butt.  He loves to rub his bare feet up and down the seat back when he's in it.

Like pp said, it is a little bulky.  It's really tall so depending on your vehicle you may have a tough time seeing over it in the middle seat.  I found it easy to install and I have no trouble taking it out if I need more room or we're taking someone else's vehicle.  It took two people to intall/remove my infant seat.... that was frustrating.

I would buy it again in a second... no second thoughts or regrets.  Well worth the money.  Let me know if you have any questions!

I also bought the TrueFit by Learning Curve/The First Years (Compass is only forward facing booster seat and you can't put them forward facing until they are over 1 year old and you can't use the booster until the are over 30 lbs and 38 inches tall. A five-point harness is better than a booster), one for rear-facing and one for forward-facing. It is only rear-facing for an inch from the top (they have a line on the seat which is great!) and under 22 lbs without the headrest, which is the same for an infant seat. It is 35 lbs rear-facing with the headrest, but it is HUGE. I don't think it would fit in a standard car (I haven't tried it, but it is much bigger than our 3-in-1 and that was difficult to fit). It is awesome as a forward-facing. I got the seats for our motorhome which doesn't have shoulder belts and no tether anchors. I'm very pleased that they can be strapped in until they are 65 lbs and less than 50 inches tall. I got a better fit forward-facing (and very easy to do!), then rear-facing in the motorhome, so as much as my girls aren't anywhere near 35 lbs and space isn't an issue, we decided to put the seat forward-facing after 1 year old and over 23 lbs.

Also, you don't put the baby in the car seat with his/her fluffy winter coat on. The material in the coat can compress in a crash, causing the straps to be loose and the baby could be ejected from the seat. Put baby in a thin, warm sweater made of non-compressible material like microfleece and then cover him/her with a blanket. Nothing should be between the baby and the straps on the car seat.
