Okay, I have a silly question. Does a baby's weight gain tend to slow down as they get older? At my DS's 4 mo needles, he was 16 lbs 2 oz. He was 9 1/2 lbs at birth, and was in the 97% percentile for weight at birth & his 2 mo needles. Now he's in the 90% percentile. The health nurse wasn't worried yet. She said sometimes the weight gain slows & they grow in height for a bit.
Did this happen with anyone else? DS no longer has his double chins or Budda belly. He can roll over, but isn't crawling yet ( 4 1/2 mos old).

| Katie was 7 pounds 8 ounces at birth and her 2 week appt she weighed 7 pounds 13.9 ounces. I think that is pretty good considering going down a bit after birth than gaining another 5.9 ounces.

Yes, it slows down. A LOT. And I think that's what the OP doctor was getting at.
My DD1 was off the charts when she was born and is now in the 25th percentile for height/weight. She hasn't gained weight in months and months, but because she is well-proportioned, exceeding expectations for her milestones and she looks healthy, the nurse isn't worried. If she was sickly or developmentally delayed or if she was really tall and really skinny, then we would investigate further. She is two.

Charlotte was 6.6 when she was born, dropped to 6.1 two days after she was born. At her 1 week appointment she was 6.8 stayed there for 2 weeks as we were having some BFing problems. Last Thursday (3 weeks old) she was 7.4 and she will be weighed tomorrow when I see our LC. I think 2 pounds is great- I'm sure we haven't gained that much yet.

Same w/ my lo. He was born at the 50th %tile at birth, but by the first 2 weeks he shot up to the 98% and at 8 months he was off the charts -- didn't even register. He's now a few days shy of of being 17 months and he's slowed down some and now is at the 85th %tile. He totally slowed down his eating when he turned one and he was walking so he burnt off all his chubbiness (though he has a big yummy jiggly bum and a trucker's beer belly). I'd say most babies will start to slow down once they turn one and when they start getting really active they tend to burn off a lot of that fat.
