Quick pre-Christmas getaway:

Riu Santa Fe, Los Cabos

Riu Paradise Island, Bahamas

Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda, Playa del Carmen, Mayan Rivera

Thoughts?

I agree, the Mayan is awesome.  BUT, I would very highly recommend the Riu chain!  There's at least one Riu in the Mayan (and 3 in Cancun), so if you can get into one, do it!  Fabulous hotels!!!

Bahamas!!!

The people are SO friendly there, and unlike Mexico, if you "leave the resort" it's a lot less "depressing" per se. However, Bahamas is VERY expensive (well Paradise Island is). We looked into Paradise Island and I think the rooms were like 500 a night. I am presuming that you mean it's not an all out big trip because you said "getaway" therefore the budget isn't huge? However; if you're not money conscious, I would recommend Bahamas.

So price wise the Riu Cabo and Riu Paradise Island were about the same, I think it was $60/pp difference, so we went with Cabo because we are looking to go at the tail end of hurricane season, so Bahamian weather may still be "iffy"

SOOOOO excited!!! Although I took a family girls' trip earlier this year, it's been over a year since we went to Spain!

Thanks for your input!

DH and I went to the Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda for our honeymoon and it was fabulous!

The resort is a new resort - very clean, friendly staff.  They have rooms that have a pool right off your room.  The rooms are a nice size...

Lots to do in the general area of the resort.. the entertainment staff does alot and their pool is fabulous!
