Hello,

I am getting married in Cuba in January 2009 at the Iberostar Varadero. I have been reading some conflicting information about the necessary documentation, and was wondering whether somebody might be able to clarify this for me.

One website seems to say that you need birth certificates and affidavit of single status documents notarized, authenticated by the Department of Foreign Affairs, and then sent to the Cuban consulate for translation and legalization before you send them to your resort (http://embacu.cubaminrex.cu/Default.aspx?tabid=1191). However, many other websites I've seen indicate you simply need a valid passport, tourist card, and a summary of names, addresses, occupations, etc. (http://www.gocuba.ca/en/travelTips.asp). Does anybody know what the real deal is?

Thanks for reading! Please help this panicked bride!

Well in our case it was that if you are single all you need is your birth certificat and your passport and fill a form that you send to the resort or it might be different with yur resort cause mine was a melia so i just faxed all my papaers by fax to the wedding coordinator, send an email to your wedding coordinator from resort and they will tell you more in detail but paper wise if u r single u only need your birth certificat in original languauge, u don't need to translate and u bring them with you once u get to the resort also

but if u r divorced then u have to have your papers translated into spanish

all the best

I'm also getting married in Cuba in April 2009 and I was hunting around for documentation as well.

I also found conflicting info! At first it looked like we needed to get everything translated and it was a lot of $$$!! Since we're getting married a Melia resort also all we have to do is fax in a form with names, addresses and occupations etc. along with photocopies of our passports and birth certificates. We are both single, never been married before. It may be different if either of you have had a divorce.

You may want to note that your witnesses cannot be blood relatives and we need to provide their names, addresses and occupations etc. along with photocopies of their passports and birth certificates too.

Hope this helps! Try asking your travel agent to find out for you or contact the resort's wedding coordinator! That's who provided us the forms to fill out.

Congrats and good luck!

I suggest you contact your wedding coordinator.  Ours told us we need copies of our passports, birth certificates and our 2 witnesses also needed to provide passport copies.  We had to send all this to the wedding coordinator a month prior to the wedding, along with a basic form we had to fill out.

3 more weeks for us!

Unless you are married you will not need any translations. We had to fill out a form with our information and the names of our witnesses (in order to ensure they were not related) and then copies of our birth certificates and passports. We just emailed all this information to our WC at the resort and once we got there she wanted to see our tourist card.

Ditto what Cuba0807 said.

She emailed me the form to complete about FH and myself, I scanned it and emailed it back to her. Done.

When you get there, you sit down with her and give her your tourist card info and book the final details of your day.

On another note, I have had to have my wedding certificate translated to English to change my drivers licence and etc. I think it depends on which MTO you go to. If you're in the Durham Region and need a certified translator, PM me for details.
