Wearing black: the long standing tradition of ladies
not wearing black to a wedding has been overturned. Today, even
the bridesmaids might be outfitted in black. Just make sure you don't
look like you're attending a funeral. Consider accessorizing that little
black dress with a brightly colored scarf or blazer.

I think rather than asking us, it might be a nice idea to ask the bride if
you're close to her. I don't think I would have been comfortable with
people wearing black at my wedding, but at the same time I wouldn't
have said anything to someone who did.
I agree, maybe just check with the bride. Or else dress up the black with some bright accessories. I too wouldn't have been very comfortable to see people show up in all black at my wedding, but if they wore a black dress with a colourful shall and shoes, and purse, etc it would have been better.

I think it's fine. I usually wear black because most of my dressy dresses are black, or mostly black. Most people have worn black to the weddings I have been to lately, and my own bridesmaids will be in black. Besides, no one is really going to remember what you wore right! I say as long as you feel comfortable- go for it!

I would say it's probably ok to wear black unless you are a parent, unless told it is ok. My MIL wore black to my wedding, and I wasn't very happy about it. I'm not sure if she thought about it, but she doesn't really like me at all, so I thought it was a bit rude. I wouldn't wear black to any of my children's weddings, but probably wouldn't think about it if it were a friend or other relative. Just an opinion though, I know times are changing and most people wouldn't think about it.

I have worn black to a few weddings, in fact I wore black to a wedding this past August and I dressed it up with a pink ribbon tied around the waist, pink earings & necklace (that maggie made for me) and a cute pink purse.

I love black and I wear it to almost every wedding I go to. I have never heard of anyone being offended and there are always lots of other people in black. I am wearing a black dress to a wedding in a couple of weeks.

I'll swim against the current and say I don't like seeing black at a wedding, for the same reason why I don't like to see light colours at a funeral or jeans at a church service.
That said, if black is the only colour that you have available to wear, then don't go out and buy something new...
