| Hi ladies, I need your help/ideas. We finally found a reception location that we both love and want to book for our wedding next summer. The only hiccup is that we are not allowed to start the party/dance until 10pm. We are allowed to have dinner/cocktail music and entertainment before just not loud dance music or group dancing before 10pm (first dance, father/daughter dance is ok). The reason for this is because the venue is a restaurant and the room that we would be having the dinner/dance is directly above the restaurant... any loud music/dancing would be heard in the restaurant area so they have put in this 10pm rule. So my question is: What can we do to fill the time between dinner and dancing? We are not planning on having long speeches or a bouquet toss/garter toss... so I am looking for untraditional wedding activities that we can do to keep our guests entertained and happy before the dancing/party starts? Please help. I really really really love this venue and I don't want to have to give it up because our party has to start later than planned.

| hmmm....could you do your ceremony later at night? like a 7pm service? then you can have your cocktail hour/reception start at 8, start dinner around 8:30-9 and then by the time dinner, speeches etc are over it will be 10! you can also do your cake cutting etc to fill the time

| It might sound a bit lame but you could do some sort of trivia game? You cold also include some general knowledge stuff or get the DJ involved to play (quietly) some music clips. Or you could do silly little contests like hula hoop dancing etc. Sorry all that's coming to mind is stuff I did back as a kid!! Not sure what would be classy and grown-up to fill up time at a wedding at the reception. Maybe a charity auction? Buy a few gifts such as wine, etc and raffle them off for charity?? Maybe hire a standup comedian to tell a few jokes?? Hope these help inspire you?

Is there anything in your ethnic tradition you could do? ie. dancers perform something?
I think if you started dinner at 7:30/8 p.m., it would take about 2 hours or more to get through the meal and your first dance and father/daughter dance and son/mother dance (if you're doing it). The meal part can take a while.
I wouldn't do anything that involves the guests getting too active - just because if they're dressed up, they might not want to limbo or anything.
Hmmm - I'll have to think about different things you can do, though. Maybe getting your parents up to dance to their first dance songs? If they'd be willing . . .

| what is your timeline?? i ask because although we were scheduled to start the dancing/party at 930 we were late and it was pretty much 10 pm by the time we had things going. Depending on what time dinner starts and how long it is expected to take you can do your special dances - your first dance, dance with dad, h's dance with mom, speeches, garter, boquet- you would be surprised at how much time this all takes! I went to a wedding last summer that did a whole game with the crowd kinda like a scavenger hunt. It was quite fun actually! Maybe talk to your dj for ideas as to what he/she can do?
