We are looking to buy our crib and wondered if you ladies could weigh in on this:

Do you prefer cribs with both sides stationary (the rails) or the cribs with the one hand drop side rail? My sister tells me the one side drop rail is the way to go...
but a lot of the ones we have seen now have both sides stationary...

Your thoughts please!

How tall are you and how long do you plan on using the crib?

I'm 5'8" and didn't have a problem getting baby in and out without dropping the rail until I was about 8-9 months pregnant.

My oldest is now about 25 lbs and I find I do put the rail down if I'm wrestling her into bed or if I'm trying to lift her out while sleeping. I don't have to put the rail down, but it does make it a little easier on my back. I'm thinking I might just have the rail down so she can climb in and out as she gets a little bigger. I have a convertible bed and she isn't ready for it to be a toddler bed yet because she still rolls out.

I think if you are shorter and/or have back issues and/or have a heavy baby, a drop rail would be a good option.

I'm tall as well and I like the drop rail. It's just easier to get him in quietly after a nice nurse or rock.

I wouldn't spend too much either... it's not worth it.  A lot of my friends got the convertable beautiful cribs but the sides are ruined as their lo's have chewed the sides!!!  They 'll be getting new beds now anyways. None of them would reccommend spending the money...although they are pretty!

This is similar to the one we bought:

Safety 1st® 'Carlisle' 3-in-1 Crib

I was very undecided as to what kind I wanted.  I love the look of a convertable crib but I didn't like the price .  The one I got was on sale at Sears and maybe $50 more than the traditional white crib.  The one I got goes from a crib to a toddler bed to a single bed and then a double bed.  Who knows if we will actually use it for that or not but the price was right.

This is not what I want to hear.  We spent $750 on a crib and were hoping it would last for a long time.  I've never heard of lo's chewing on the sides of a crib before.

yup, me and my sister both chewed on the sides of our crib when we were babies. that's why i just got a simple crib with an up/down rail for my DD.
