I've had a full, complete waxing down there three times now.
It is reallllly painful! Although, this is coming from someone who doesn't wax or pluck eyebrows, legs...nothing.
But it's so worth it in the end!

I've never gone for this either -- but have heard rave reviews from the women at work who say their DH's LOVE it...lol...so my question is: how long does it take for the hair to start growing back and getting all prickly?? (i.e. How long does it stay baby smooth for?)

Ok, as someone who's been getting waxes for about 8 years now I feel confident in the following advice:
1) It hurts, have one glass of wine and an advil ahead of time.
2) In my personal and not to be taken too seriously opinion, the only people who should be waxing you and seeing you naked are well kept eastern european women with lovely accents and serious skill. Euros just are more used to this than us north americans, I don't make the rules. And I am mostly kidding... mostly...
3) Ex foliate with those little nubbly gloves the day before but not the day of - irritation.
4) It should cost over $20 but under $50.
5) She should always retrieve strays. You will come to know this concept soon when you think you've got a smooth finish and then BAM - prickly little hairs managed to escape unscathed. A good waxer will always get the whole job done.
6) Brazillians are worth it, but not for everyone. If you prefer just a bikini, this is fantastic and he will love it. LOVE it.
7) Powder up afterwards. A good place will offer you extra silky powder to apply after, and you should wait 2 days before revealing the finished product to your hunny, just in case you react poorly. This also takes down the swelling and pinking (I'm not sure that is a word but you get the point eh?)
8) Wear gitch you don't love to the appointment and never wear a thong home, you will regret this....ouch!
Be prepared to dislike living any other way from then on, I cannot go without a wax now. It just never feels right unless its clean cut.
Always discreetly tip your waxer unless she owns the salon or spa, then it is considered some kind of insult I think... I'm not too sure on that one though.
Have fun!!
I recommend a nice pinot gris ahead of time

Where I go they tell you how to get ready and then leave the room. From my experience I keep my top on, and my thong (though I bring another granny panty along to walk home in... trust me) because I get brazillians. Keep your underwear on and sit on the table and wait. A good place will always instruct you nicely to lay down and move one leg up at a time and tell you what the status is as you go.
Good luck!

YES - make the trip to Guelph, Ontario to Cocoa's.
Best.... wax.... ever... I don't know the name of the owner but she normally does them, very good price, very nice staff, very discreet.
I have friends who literally drive from Midland to go to this place.
It rocks.

Great tip!
And yes, Cocoa's is awesome. I used to get my eyebrows done there all the time and anywhere else I go just isn't the same. Great waxers - I think the lady that does it is the owner - she's a sweetheart.
