We had a sit down dinner with 100 people invited 78 attended this included us. Our wedding came in at $7000 everything included. It is possible you just have to cut the non necessities, make priorities and do as much as possible yourself.
Just to give a little detail. It was a sit down dinner, actually buffet, we served wine at dinner, bar was cash bar, we had a dj, photographer and videographer all day, we hired a harpist for the ceremony and we had wine bottled and in organza bags as favors. I did all of our baking for dessert table, we had a wedding cake, we also ordered Pizzas for 11pm. Those were the big things. We did all that under $7000 this also includes the dress, tux, licenses, minister, decorations, and all flowers and all jewelery all bridal party gifts as well. So yes it can be done. I have had some people say that the wedding was one of the nicest they have ever been to.

I'm so glad you made this post! Its hard to find information that is applicable and not overwhelming when it comes to a small, simple wedding. We are keeping it to 30 ppl for the ceremony, and a luncheon reception. The only thing stopping us from eloping are our grandparents. My dress is $200 (have to order it next week) and the reception/ceremony shouldn't be too much either as we're doing it in Niagara at the Chapel at the Inn. Our date also falls on a Wednesday, so we're hoping that works to our advantage.

Oh thank goodness, some like minds!
You know what I am finding most cray about weddings? The fact that people actually think there are 'rules' - ok, except for the legal or religious stuff - there aren't any rules!
It just bums me out to think of all of these hyper stressed out women out there struggling to fit into some fake mold and do everything 'right'.
Which ends up translating into spending a LOT of money on things you don't even NEED - like flowers and a cake or a limo, etc. Sure, if those things rock your world, then go for it. But I do think too many people spend money on things just because they think they need to follow some imaginary rule book.
Rant over
So - back on topic - we're saving money by not having a limo, cake, or boutonnieres, rehearsal dinner or a lot of flowers. And I bought my AWESOME dress at Your White Dress in Toronto - every dress they have is $299!! And you get to buy it off the rack and take it home. Which sounds soo much better to me than trying on a dress that isn't even your size then having to wait 6 months to see it again. And did I mention is was $299!!?? I love a deal. I might even leave the price tag on for the ceremony
Does anyone know any good photographers?? We don't want a lot of formal shots and want someone who will hand over the raw digital images.
Thanks!

| We didn't have a 'simple' wedding, it was pretty big (150 people, $15k approx), but we did things to save costs 1 - Our venue was a local community hall. Our caterer was fairly inexpensive, and we were able to supply our own alcohol without paying a corkage fee. This was huge, as it saved us a TON of money, and we were able to have the open bar that we wanted. 2 - We did our own decorations at the venue. We bought white Christmas lights during the boxing day sales and used them to decorate the hall, along with tulle and strands of ivy from Walmart. Our ceremony was outdoors, so nature decorated for us. 3 - I had silk flowers for our bouquets/corsages/bouts. I got my bouquet, MOH bouquet, 3 bm bouquets, 7 bouts and 6 corsages for $300. Awesome deal! 4 - DIY invites, place cards, centerpieces, card box and favours 5 - cake from a local bakery instead of from a "wedding cake" place. Total cost for cake was about $200 and it was delicious! We had been quoted over $700 for the same cake at other places. By saving money on these things, I was able to splurge on my dress, my photographer and our honeymoon, which were important to us.

| We are drastically cutting our guestlist in order to keep costs low. We are having about 30 guests (strictly immediate family, grandparents, and our wedding party) at a church ceremony and then we are having dinner at a fancier restaurant at Blue Mountain in Collingwood. Later we will have cocktails and go dancing at a martini lounge, and my guests will stay the night. The next day we plan on skiing, snowboarding, skating, etc. together. By having a small wedding we feel so relieved. Originally we were planning a 250+ wedding and we were so overwhelmed trying to please everyone. Now we can have our special day with the people closest to us, and really enjoy our time with our guests - we can also put that extra money into our new house.
