Austin is EBF and I'm very good about pumping and freezing milk so if I need to go out it's no big deal. I was wondering what would happen if I gave him formula once in a blue moon. WOuld it upset his stomach? He had formula once or twice before he got the hang of BFing and he was fine. I've been wondering about this forever!

I think all babies are different but it can affect their "gut flora"   If you are pumping and freezing  and that works for you great.  If not, try the formula. I know many women supplement with formula.  I think it can complicate matters with your milk supply but once in a while probably wouldn't hurt... although I wouldn't risk it.  And of course babies adapt so if you had to, I'm sure the babe would deal with it.

I have an article on the gut flora somewhere I can pull it up if you want.

Thanks very much for posting that article! I guess I have my answer now.  I never wanted to supplement with formula because I LOVE BFing. I just always worry about their being enough milk when I leave. I never go too far though so I suppose I should stop worrying.

Sounds like the best advice to me, too! Your health or your baby's nutrition are kind of a scary things to ask random women off the internet about... (Speaking from recent experience)

Good luck!

Well, it's true to ask your doctor of course but I don't think it's scary to ask opinions from other moms - that's why we're all here. Really it was just a question nothing that could put health or nutrition in jeopardy...JMO..

And of course Kennedy is thriving which is awesome. We all have to do what's best in our situation for our lo's!!!
