I would like a list of stuff that my FH can do before the wedding.  He is a contractor and works his own hours so when I am sitting at work he could go out and do stuff.  Any suggestions?

Weddings ~ For the Groom

The “Honey Do” List

  1. Send her flowers – for no reason.
  2. Send her flowers for a reason – the 6 month anniversary of your engagement, her birthday, because it’s one week until the wedding.
  3. Take her younger siblings to a movie, ball game or the circus.
  4. Take her Mom and Dad to lunch.
  5. Give her a half hour foot massage – once a week. (Graduate to pedicure and she’ll never ask you to take out the garbage.)
  6. Be her personal chauffeur for a day of wedding errands.
  7. Leave little love notes on her fridge.
  8. Plan one evening a week just for the two of you – no wedding talk allowed – just romance.

On a more practical level, here are some great ways for the groom to contribute his expertise to the wedding planning. If you are:

  • A techno guy, create and manage the wedding web site. If spreadsheets are your thing, you can help manage guest lists, gift lists and to do lists.
  • A wine lover, you can help select the wines and liquors for the reception. • Into music, research and help select the band or music.
  • A car lover, take charge of all the transportation needs for the wedding.
  • A foodie, help with the menu planning and/or selection of the caterer.

Another enormous help to your fiancée is to write the thank you notes to your relatives and close friends. Sharing this responsibility goes a long way to reduce what can, at times, seem an overwhelming task.

And one of the best ways a groom can lend a hand is by working with his parents to get a head start on planning the rehearsal dinner. With all the planning needs intrinsic to a wedding, don’t feel shy about putting your expertise to good use.

What's a Groom To-Do?

Let's take a quick look at your to-do list:

  1. Pick a theme and color palette
  2. Find a florist, caterer, baker, a location, officiant and a few other essential vendors
  3. Buy your dream wedding dress
  4. Find the right favors that both matches your theme AND doesn’t break your budget
  5. Order your invitations
  6. Pick your bridesmaids and their dresses

Of course this is just a very short list of what you have to do as the bride. But don’t forget it’s not just you getting married. Your groom is a big part of planning a wedding. He just doesn’t know it yet.

It’s very common for grooms to think that their job is pretty much over once they ask you to marry them and they hand over a ring. Your groom’s to-do list probably reads: Attend bachelor party, pick-up tux, show up at wedding, go on honeymoon. Right?

Well, it’s about time grooms got a new wedding planning to-do list.

Get your guy involved in something he’s probably really excited about…the honeymoon. Ask him to pick a few options for your most romantic vacation ever and then present them to you.

My husband was pretty good about helping. His to-do list looked like this:

- create and update all spreadsheets
- organise transport for the day of
- organise all music for the reception (We didn't hire a DJ)
- scan our baby photos, edit them on Photoshop, and create slideshow on Powerpoint
- created the layout for, printed, and addressed invitations (with my help, but I'm sure this could be done solely by your fiance if you're too busy)

Do you mean on the day of the wedding? I think it only depends how much control you want over things. I just got my bouquet handed to me at the door of the church

Yeah on the day of the wedding.  I don't know if I do it or not?
