Ok so we are still looking for a photographer and then I find this chick...

She charges $200 bucks the whole day with the condition that you allow her to use the pics for her portfolio, as she is trying to build one.

$200 bucks for the whole day no prints but a disk so you can get your own prints done.

I am trying to cut costs but I dont know if it would be like throwing the money down the toilet.

What should I do.

Does this photog have any training? If it's a student out of school, or a student who is still doing school, I might actually give her a chance. If you have a family relative who is handy with a camera, you could ask them to also help out and get "other shots". Be very specific with her with what shots you want.

If this is just some person who has decided taking wedding photos would be fun, but they have no training and they maybe just have a nice camera, I'd probably hesitate to have them cover the wedding - at least on their own.

Does she have a website?

If they don't have any kind of portfolio yet, I'd also maybe pass up what is a super offer. There are other shoot-and-burn photographers who will shoot your day and give you a disk of photos (unedited or slightly edited) who will do it for under $1000.

Our big day is July 11, 2009

Ask to see other wedding photos.
If she can't show you any, then run.

DH and I had a photographer friend who takes really great portraits shoot our wedding and we were *so* disappointed. We've been married since May /06 and our parents still don't have albums and we don't have a single wedding photo displayed because we are that unhappy.

Every photographer needs to start somewhere, but they shouldn't shoot a wedding alone as their first gig just to build a portfolio. They should be shooting along side another photographer for a few first at the very least.

Is she willing to do an engagement session for you? I have a girlfriend that's trying ot get into the business so she'll do our photos but she's amazing.

I also have a friend that used a student for her wedding she paid him $500 for the day and he touched up a lot of the pics and stuff and she couldn't have been happier. She actually had him and another "experienced" photographer and she was way happier with the student.

But I agree with the PP if she can't show you any of her work then I would stay away... if you're in the GTA I can give you my friends contact as well you can look her up on facebook she has some of her work on there... she's really good... at least you could have some ground for comparisson.

We are actually getting our marriage councellor to take pictures.  He takes all the pictures at our church and they are always beautiful.  We had professional engagement pictures, but we are trying to cut costs and he will do them as a wedding present, so if they don't turn out what I expected my fault.  But his pictures are  very good.

Almost married.  November 22nd.

People could you RSVP already???

She sent me a link to her website so I checked out her pics as I would be the first wedding she does have engagement shots and other types.

I think we will give her a shot if there are any other London area brides who might be interested PM me and I will send you her info.
