Ok so I'm sure that i'm just being a bit paranoid... but at work I took my b/p and it was 105/61 which I thought was really low! Especially considering i'm usually on the higher end of normal. When is it problematic and what was your experience?

Low blood pressure is only a problem when you have symptoms of it.
Symptoms are/can include:
- Dizziness or light-headedness
- Fainting
- Irregular heartbeat
- Stiff neck
- Burning and foul smelling urine
- Low concentration
- Blurred vision
- Nausea
- Cold, clammy, pale skin
- Rapid or shallow breathing
- Fatigue
- Depression
- Thirst
(Is it strange that many of these are also symptoms of early pregnancy? Or is low blood pressure common in early pregnancy as well because of the relatively quick increase in blood volume happening at the same time?)

Anyhow, here's an article that you may find interesting:
http://www.pregnancy-calendars.net/hypotension.aspx

It includes some treatments (2/3 are 'home remedies' you can try!). But be sure to bring this to your doctor's attention as you may have developed a condition that the low blood pressure is a symptom of and you'll want to rule that out.

Good luck!
Melissa

Hi Viclee!
I had hypotension when I was pregnant...my BP was always really low, like 90/50-60...really really low. I had a problem with passing out/fainting, and I was dehydrated a lot of the time (m/s) so that always made it worse. I also would get reakky dizzy every time I stood up, even if I did it slowly. I was instructed to eat more salt as that would help my body retain fluids and would bring my BP up. My prescription from my doctor was a bag of S&V chips... lol!
It wasn't a problem unless I was really dehydrated. My doctor said they would rather it be low then high. They don't really do anything for low BP- or at least that my experience.

My BP was low during my pregnancy too, for the most part during the pregnancy it was around 100/60 but for a couple of months it dropped to 90/50, my doctor was not worried at all.  I don't think it's an issue unless it actually becomes an issue, ie: fainting, dizziness, etc.

I had a pregnancy induced highblood pressure (pre-eclampsia).  My bp was so high...that my OB at the time admitted me straight to the hospital right away!   It happened so quickly.   I gave birth pre-term via c-section.  That's how bad it was!!

Having high bp is not a good thing during pregnancy.  It is harmful to you and for the baby.    That is why at every OB appt, the doctor will take your blood pressure first thing.

I read somewhere your blood pressure can drop in a certain month. I think it was the third month. Thats not to terribly low and as long as your not experiencing any symptoms you could probably just keep checking it every now and then and talk to your doc about it.

My bp is usually around 100/60 at my appointments as well but OB isn't concerned
