Our hall was expensive too, but we sold alot of tickets and a ton of people came. At all times there were at least 150 people there.  I think the trick is getting people to stay.  I have been to many that were so lame early on that people walked in, bought a drink drank it and slipped out.  We had an awesome dj and some really fun games that made people come in and stay.  we made almost 4000 clear.  we sold booze we bought and made money off of it too.  like alana's hall ours included 2 bartenders, cups, and mix.  worry free.  I also forced my coworkers and family to come early. I figured if i had 30 or so people there early than as people trickled in then it would seem busy from the start.  I did not need to force anyone tho cause we were packed by 810 pm.  The people running the hall estimated 300 ppl made an apearance and at least 150-175 stayed from around 830-1230 at night.

i'm still debating on the jack and jill

i found a hall (huge) for 400$ but i'm so afraid people wont buy the tickets .. how are you doing it? are you telling people about it and asking them to buy a ticket?

ill feel stupid telling them they are invited to a party, but its 10$

i dunnooooooo

LOL... generally, when you tell people it's a social/J&J/S&D they know it's a party they're paying to get into.

$400 is a great price for a hall! Remember: what you're looking for is a place that offers the most headache-saving features for the best price.  For example, my hall cost includes the set-up & clean-up, 2 bartenders, all the mix, garnish, cups and napkins, and coffee and tea at the end of the night... so these are things I don't have to worry about in the planning... they're already taken care of!

To sell tickets... yep, just get out there and sell 'em!  Also, this is what a bridal party is for - give them each 20 tickets to sell to their friend and family.

Have fun!!

I agree with alana ... know your crowd, plan a silent auction or raffles and games ... and get your family and bridal party to sell a set number of tickets. The more the merrier for a party.

Do you have a friend or family with a big house or yard? Instead of renting a hall you could do and outside afternoon or evening stag & Doe. Thats what friends of our family are doing....and they are hosting it for us. So we are not putting any money up at all. Whatever money is made will be ours. I'm surprised someone in your Bridal party would not organize it...if they all pitched in together it does not have to be expensive at all. Just depends what you want.

We are in the mist of planning our jack and jill.  I agree you have to know your crowd.. but you also have to remember that not everyone is into gambling or raffles or maybe even dancing for that matter.  We are having several different things at ours.. a little bit of everything.  As far as tickets go..start from your wedding guest list..and go from there.  We have 200 tickets printed up and divided them into packs of 25.  The whole wedding party got a pack each including the parents.  Offer the tickets at the door aswell.. some people prefer to have that option.  The more the merrier and think about it as one BIG party.  Invites as many people as you think your hall can hold.  Not everyone will be able to make it.. but hey.. maybe they will atleast by a ticket.  Good luck!!
