He hasn't come out and SAID he likes it, but I know he does ;)

I had an appt. to cut my hair next weekend and then conveniently someone changed the plans and I had to delay my hair appt. I'm getting it cut short.

About 8 months after the wedding I had an appt with a new stylist and told her to try something fun. I liked the outcome -

Won't lie - miss my long hair. Thinking about growing it back. But I've had so many compliments on this cut....it's hard!

I'm planning on cutting it this week. My hair has never been this long and honestly, it's too long to look really nice anymore. I'm going to cut it down to a style that suits me better.

Having long hair is killing me.
I haven't had it this long since I was in Junior Kindergarden.

My tradition has been chopping it all of in May or June, and growing it out until the following May or June. Getting a cut (rather than trim) only once a year. Worked well when DH and I were married (May 6/06) because I was getting due for my cut anyway.

Then my sister decides to get married in September. *sigh*
I have been growing this mop for a year and a half now and I am getting sick of it. I am just afraid that if I go to get any of it taken off, that I will get it all chopped off to my usual May/June shortness (barely long enough for a bobby pin) and I want to have long hair for a updo for her wedding (I'm the MOH).

70 more days till haircut!

I'm not a newly wed yet, but I like this section.

Young & hot doesn't mean you have to have long hair. That's actually pretty offensive to say. The longest I have had my hair in my life was down to my shoulders. Otherwise, it's been short (shorter than chin length), and this is actually a hot look for many women.

I'm growing my hair out for the wedding and now my FH realizes why I don't like long hair. My hair is very thick, very fluffy and very unmanageable at the best of times. He is actually kind of not liking the long hair look on me, but it will look nice for the wedding to have it up. The day after the wedding I'll be sprinting to the nearest salon to get my hair chopped off really short and sexy. When I say short, I'm talking short and it's not b/c I'll be a wife but it's b/c I prefer short hair that is manageable and cute![/quote]

That is what I said too, I didn't count on most salons in Kingston being closed on sunday lol! So I did it on monday

I have had long hair my whole life. And I am growing it a bit longer for the wedding
And I have always said to my FH that I would cut it short once we were married. I hope I don't chicken out, I am so excited to cut it but very very scared. I know people say it is just hair and it will grow back but I am very attached to it.

Here is hoping I don't chicken out!!

Im not married yet, but have already started thinking about what I will do with my hair after the wedding. I don't think its a "ritual" for the bride to cut her hair after the wedding, its more common that a bride starts growing her hair out for the wedding day from the moment she gets engaged, then after the wedding cuts it off back to the way she had it, or even a sexier shorter do! With me, my FH and I met when I had very long blonde hair, then we started dating and I chopped it to my chin and dyed it black, then a while later grew it out and dyed it blonde again, but with all the going back and forth it wont grow fast enough for the way I have always pictured my hair for my wedding so I got real hair extensions with my hair almost to my waist and platinum blonde, and I know for a fact that after the wedding I will probably cut the extensions to my chest area (boobs! hehe) and make the color not so much of a bold blonde. Its definately not because I changed cause I got married, but because if you don't ever do anything different then your appearance is never ever unique to you!:)

Ya evan we all made really ensightful thoughts and it seemed you ignored them all the post what you wanted!! Like i said...my hair is down past my armpit...because i want my hair culy for the wedding...so..it needs to be a tad longer than i normally wear my hair...ive actually NEVER had my hair this long....after the wedding i will chop it back to what it was before i grew it to be able to do it for the wedding.....i cannot possible sit and spent an hour curling my hair every day...hence why i dont wear it this long....but i want it this way for my one special day....and whether i grow it long..chop it short the way i had it when i met my fh...my fh will still think im incredibly sexy...and since i dont define myself and who i am by the length of my hair...i am not changing at all.....its just hair..its just the outside...it has nothing to do with who i am as a person.....and as smurf said...ya..that DOES change too..but in a good way!!!!

Not everyone is cutting their hair- there are a handful of ladies who have posted that they have after their wedding. I guarentee you that there are many more who don't. I don't know why you think it's a "ritual" or where you got the idea that "SO many people" do it.

No one said anything about going back to looking like "themselves" after their wedding, so I don't know where you are getting that idea from?!

If you "don't understand the whole "post wedding hair comcept, or the "before & after" thread"" then don't post in them. Easy as that.

All in all, we will all do what we want for our own reasons- before or after our weddings. You do what YOU want...we will do what we want. OH- and tell me again in a few years that getting married didn't change you...it does, just wait!

Amanda (smurf) said it so well, but I still want to put in my 2 cents :P

I looked like "me" at my wedding - the me with longer hair. I have curly/frizzy hair and chose to get married in Cuba, so there was no freaking way I was wearing it down. Therefore, I grew out my hair a little longer than I would have normally so that I could wear it up and be able to do something with it, instead of having a teeny tiny ponytail that wouldn't have looked right. When the wedding/trip was over, I got a few inches taken off because my hair looks better down at that length. I didn't do it because it's a "ritual", I did it because after growing out my hair over 13 months, I was tired of it, and the reason that I had grown it out was over!

This is how long my hair was when we got engaged (this was taken about 2 months before):

In summary - I don't think most people cut their hair because they got married and think that all married ladies have short hair, they cut it because it's time for a change!

Oh and the before and after thread - trust me, I looked WAY better on my wedding day than I do on a normal day, false eyelashes and liquid eyeliner are not in my daily routine :P

Did you bother to read any of our posts??? We mostly ALL stated that we change our hair all the time. Cutting my hair to a pixie cut had nothing to do with being a married woman, it had to do with 'hey, I think I want short hair again'. But you obviously will see it another way so I'm not going to bother anymore. Whatev.

The before and afters is a fun a post... mostly it is about the fact that some people might take several years to plan a wedding... and people change and grow over that time. We are all at different points in our lives. Some of us finish school, some have babies, and other major life changes all in the time that have gotten in engaged and gotten married... that is more the point. To see with a pic where we started from and where we are now. The post is more about progession of life and the changes that do occur over time... not changing and becoming different people over night. often times the after picutres catches the look of excitment of starting a new chapter in the lives the couple.

The post wedding hair is the same idea. I focused on the girls that cut off their hair cause that is what i did.. and the previous post that was there before the boards crashed was about the same. however... if i had changed it to a totally different color, or permed it... i would have asked about that. so do you see where the change is coming from?? it is an over time thing.. not an over night.

I know that both DH and I have changed since planning our wedding. It brought us very close, made us talk about our families, our expecatations and what the future holds for us. it also made us talk about having children... and after 10 years together this is a big change. so... yeah, i guess that i have become a different person in a part of me... I am Mrs Kelly... I have become more then what i was before... i have added to myself though not become someone else.

I feel that you have taken a very narrow view of the posts and made them a deeper subject then they are... both posts are about sharing who we are with the women that we have become close to in this planning... and unfortunetly by saying that short hair is not young, hot or sexy, and that cutting your hair off is old fashion, i feel that you have a very narrow view of beauty...

One girl on here recently shaved her head for cancer... i think she is one of the sexiest, most beautiful young women on here!! sexy is from with in... i don't need hair for that.

My husband still thinks I'm hot- in fact he introduces me as his "hot wife". In factit was something I did so that I wouldn't get lazy. With my crazy curls, getting stuck in the pony-tail rut is very easy. I chopped it off so I'd have to do it every day.I'm going to chop it again after my baby is born. No offence evan but.....that has to be THE most archaic comment i've ever hear!!! I dont mean to be condescending but...How old are you???? because any woman knows that hair has NOTHING to with being sexy looking...as many people have commented about the celebrities with short hair that look trendy and amazing or those women who have long stringy hair who SHOULD cut it...or even our gorgeous examples here..i actually have hair past my armpits right now and its driving me crazy...the point of people growing their hair is so they can maybe do a little more with it on their wedding day.....so after the wedding...people who normally wouldn't grow their hair that long...give it a good healthy chop...which is what i fully intend to do!!!

haha go for it! my curls are tight at the front and looser at the back, so its shorter in the back and longer in the front, though you cannot tell in this picture.

I plan on only getting my hair trimmed over the next 2 years (I'll keep my high/lowlights though) so that it'll be really LONG for my wedding. I want either a half updo with it pulled to one side but curly and down (hard to explain) or a fancy (but sheek) updo.

Right now it's @ my shoulders but after the wedding I'm sure I'll cut it off to around my current length.

Thanks Ladies!! i thought that comment was different... but after i went to work i wondered if i had just let the pms get the better of me... glad to see that i was not just being "sensitive".

Thanks to you all for the compliments again. Love being in the hot sexy short hair club... i think we look wonderful.. and i love how fast it is to style. I got ready for work this morning and for the first time that i can recall i only had to brush my hair... that was it!!! i am thrilled!

I think that hair is something that one is able to express themselves through...I had long hair for over 10 years..than I decided that life is too short not to experiment with hair...I tend to get bored with my hair....I had it pixie short for quite awhile and had made a decision to grow it long..than my DH proposed and I decided to keep growing it and it was very hard not to put highlights in my hair or change up the length...I can't speak on behalf of any of the ladies..but I really do think they all look fantastic with their new do's....I chopped off all mine because I wanted a change as I had it the same way for almost 2 years...sometimes I do miss putting it in a ponytail..but hair is only hair and I think many women actually look so much better with a shorter style...it brightens up their faces...so I do not think this is an old fashioned thing to do but having shorter hair does not mean you aren't "young and hot"....it means you are courageous enough to not go with the norm of what people percieve as "sexy"...I have gotten many compliments on my shorter hair and most have said they prefer me with shorter hair...I am fortunate enough to have enough confidence in myself to see through the length of one's hair...again this is only my opinion..and whether one has short, medium...long or whatever if it is a style that they like then I say go for it...
