She said it sounded like bongo drums. hahaha :P

RE: 2 month app't this morning
Same w/ me. I have a heart murmur and still have it today and I'm still kicking around at 31. :)

I had to go every 2 years to have it monitored by a cardiologist at the Childrens hospital in Vancouver until I was 12 then it was every 4 years. I was even monitored during my pregnancy because they thought Oli might have a congenital heart defect like his mom. :) Thankfully, he doesn't.

My hole was really big and right beside a valve -- I almost had to have surgery 3 times before the age of two, but I managed to thrive just fine... I'm 5'7'' and 120 lbs and I almost have enough energy to keep up w/ my ubber hyper boy! ;) Oh, and I was one of those blue babies -- my mom said my lips were always blue. The most I had to do was take naps until I was in grade 1 and take antibiotics when ever I went to the dentist or any type of surgery. You just have to watch out for bacteria getting into the blood stream -- hence why I had to to those pills.

RE: 2 month app't this morning

I still have mine. If I ever go to see a new doc about something or specialist or in to emergency for whatever reason. The DR will listen to my heart and I always wait for the funny look on his/her face.. Then I get the you have a HM or did you know you have a HM? I always tell them yes and it's always left at that.

When I see my regular doc who has been my doc from when I was born he listens and says "oh I hear you HM" I asked him if it's something to be worried about and he said nope you've had it since you were born. Obviously it hasn't effected you...

I hope this gives you a bit of peace of mind.

RE: 2 month app't this morning

Nolan has a heart murmur also. The doctor heard it when he was about 2 weeks old. When he was 3 weeks we saw the cardiologist and were told that a valve in his heart had not fully closed yet causing a whooshing sound(a murmur) She told us it was nothing to worry about and it should resolve itself by 3-4 months. At Nolans 4 month appointment the doctor could still hear it. He told us it is really nothing to worry about. (which I still kinda do). I know it's hard to deal with the possibility that something might be wrong but I find comfort that both the pedi and the cardiologist were very relaxed about it. I hope everything turns out fine(I'm sure it's nothing to worry about)

RE: 2 month app't this morning

My sister was born with a heart mumur and hers closed up on its own!

Meika also got her shots this morning and about 30min before her appt I gave her some infant tylenol. I'm sure if this is the first time you're hearing about the HM, then it's likely very slight! Anyways, long story short it closed on it's own before she was 2 and she's absolutely, perfectly fine now.

I know this doesn't mean much when it's YOUR BABY that has the HM, but I wanted to offer it in hopes that you don't freak out too much~ :)

Best of luck with the u/s

RE: 2 month app't this morning

Thanks girls! You're making me feel better!

Annora is having a huge freakout right now, I think her thighs are hurting where she got the shots. So if she can scream like that and not have any problem I'm sure she's fine, murmur or no murmer. :)

RE: 2 month app't this morning

I'm not pregnant or have kids... However I was born with a heart murmur and there is all degress of them I'm sure (I'm no DR).

My mother was told when I was just born and I know back then they did whatever testing. I will tell you I still have my heart murmur and it has never to this day EVER effected me in anyway. My mom never told me about it until I was a teenager because I probably wouldn't understand and she didn't want me to worry or let it effect me as a kid playing and let me go about things normally.

I was a competitive athlete right up to 21..

I know it's not a log of info but some positive thoughts!

RE: 2 month app't this morning

Hey Chantal...

When my brother was born, drs thought he had a heart murmur and possibly something more serious, that it could possibly cause real problems, etc. Told my parents to monitor carefully. He had to go back for regular cardiologist appointments through the early years of his life and each time, drs would be like "So is he behind? Struggling to keep up with others his age? Does he have trouble being active? Breathing problems? etc." My parents would always laugh because my little brother was like the single most energetic, active kid alive, lol. He has never once had any cardiac complication of ANY kind - he played competitive hockey for years, was ranked in the top 5 in our city for cross country running in high school, grew and developed 100% totally normally. Turns out he just has a heart murmur, which is not uncommon - both my parents have it also (I'm the only one in the family who doesn't, as far as I know). So I hope Annora's story is just as positive - I'm sure your little girl is just fine :)

2 month app't this morning

This morning Annora had her 2 month app't at the doctor's. He was impressed with how well she's doing, but when he listened to her heartbeat he took forever so I knew he heard something weird. Then he asked me if she ever turned blue when she was crying. (She hasn't.) He thought he heard a heart murmur, so she's got to have an ultrasound in 2 weeks to investigate further. I'm not terribly worried since the doctor said it was probably nothing, but I am a little worried. The doctor said she's thriving besides that, though, which is good.

She had her shots this morning too and took them really well! She's been sleeping off and on since then and is only now starting to get a bit fussy, although we put her in her swing with a pacifier and she's a bit calmer.
