Tired of it all...well sort of...but sort of not....

So FH proposed in April. We've been together 6 years in October. I just don't know what to do. FH just wants to elope cuz he doesn't want to deal with his family (my dad recently told me that if we got married and had the big wedding he wouldn't expect/want me to invite his family :w00t:). My BFF's MIL recently asked me if we had run off and quietly gotten married as I wear both rings together (they look strange seperately). FH would be happy with going down to city hall on a weekday, signing the papers and being done. My mom has told me she doesn't "believe" in how weddings are done nowadays (with the big party afterwards). FH's parents are not here (for now) and I can only assume will have very strong opinions on who would be invited to the wedding. My brother has recently asked why we have not yet gotten married and "they better hurry up or a shotgun wedding might be in order SOON!" To avoid the headaches I've more or less agreed on the elopement. I'm honestly tired of it all and would just like to get "it" over with, and I don't like that feeling.

Hi Ladies!

I have been lurking around these boards for about the past year, and one thing I have really enjoyed, are all the photos, ideas, and "my stuff" posts. With only two weeks to go until our wedding, I thought it was only fair that I post mine for you as well :-) Please forgive the backgrounds...most of these I took in the basement or laundry room, as that's where this stuff is all stored!

Centerpieces - We got a great deal at Liquidation World! I've got little green and pink paper flowers that will also be sprinkled around them. And there will be pink table runners (sashes) going across the round tables in both directions:

Table Names (Places we'll be going on our honeymoon). The holders were free from a friend.

Reception Program (we're also going to play the "shoe" game, but didn't list that on here)

Favour Tags (FH is really well known among family and friends for his yummy chocolate chip cookies, so we're giving two per person, wrapped in saran wrap and tulle).

Cake topper - we got it in Mexico - the guy was in our hotel lobby and made it to personalize for us overnight. FH is a POC Firefighter, and I am a dragon boater, hence the paddle. Our names and date is on the bottom piece. Our "cake" is going to be Krispy Kreme donuts, with icing flower decorations. Its hard to explain, but different as it is, I think it will look reasonably nice. We just wanted to have fun with it.

Cake cutter - this was given to me by someone at my shower. They don't know we're having donuts, but we're still going to use it! I love that is a "shoe".

Umbrellas we bought at the dollar store for the wedding party, in case it rains...but of course its NOT going to rain ;-)

Wish Tree - Instead of a guestbook, guests will write on these tags and hang them on the tree. Later I will put them in a scrap book. This is a terrible photo, but it does look nice. The vases are a dark green glass.

For the kidlets - we will put this on a table with pencil crayons, crayons, paper, glow sticks, and bubbles. This book has puzzles, colouring book pages, etc.

Hey ladies,

So i realize that the wedding is still 11 months away but I already cannot stop stressing, It's going so far as I'm losing sleep at night lol. I keep thinking well maybe we can do this or maybe we can do that and by the next day I'm like WOW I cannot believe I even thought about doing that. So to get to the point, I really want to get FH something to surprise him with on the wedding day. I don't think he will give me anything but he has done so much for me and been so patient. I really want to show him he is appreciated. I wont give him something to sentimental as I don't want him to be embarrassed in front of his men lol. I was thinking maybe a grooms cake at the reception of a computer(super computer freak) or a bottle of captain morgans spiced rum(the drink he was drinking the night we met). I feel like i have writers block, going insane thinking about all these details.

I thought I would introduce myself. My fiance and I have finally picked a date. We plan on getting married May 7th. 2011.

There are no topics for us 2011 brides and grooms, and I am curious to know when you all are gonna start booking.

Some people tell me it is way to early to start booking, others tell me booking now is a good idea. I would love to start planning because I am so impatient, but my fiance is a procastinator. :P

It feels so long away but we have to save up for this wedding because we plan on inviting around 220-250 guests. Is anyone else feeling the two year engagement blues?

Planning in Collingwood/Wasaga Beach Area

Hello ladies :)

My FH and I recently relocated to Wasaga Beach for his job. We are hoping to have our wedding on Saturday June 4th, but are willing to play with the date a little if necessary.

I am having a really hard time finding a venue for the reception (and perhaps ceremony as well) that will fit into our budget. I considered the idea of having it in a park (there are a multitude of them here), but is it really that much more cost efficient once the chair,linen,table,glassware,tableware,cutlery, etc.,etc.,etc... rental costs are all factored in? I am hoping there are some other budget conscious brides who are later in the planning stages or recently married who can give me some fabulous ideas.

We have already found ways to cut costs in other areas such as clothing (for my dress, veil, tiara, garters {a keep and a toss}, petticoat,FG dress and 3 BM dresses it's about $950 from an online retailer), I am purchasing the DIY invites from Michaels, FMIL and I are going to bake the cake the night before (we're both HUGE bakers and I don't believe in MOST superstitions), I plan on making my own bouquets, bouts and centerpieces (I found an online wholesaler for about $1/stem + $1/bunch for greenery), found reasonably priced photographers on kijiji who are students/recent grads looking to build their portfolios and my FFIL owns an Orange MG Convertible (YAY! our wedding colour! lol) that FH and I are trying to talk him into loaning to us for the day of to get from ceremony to reception (if not at the same location).

I'd LOVE to have the ceremony on the beach here (probably area 4,5 or 6 to minimize crowds) so a low priced chair/runner/archway rental place would also be a big help (especially if they do the set-up and tear down themselves).

A barn would be ideal and a gold star to one that is reasonable in price and owns chairs, tables and linens.

Any suggestions?

Hey everybody! I got married last year so I haven't been around the boards much in the last few months.

Now that I'm back and reading all the posts about saving money, I have an idea to pass along too!

At our wedding, my childhood friends provided the wedding favours as their gift to us. They were bottles of spice, customized with our monogram, wedding colors and even our picture. Everyone thought it was really unique. Our theme became the Spice of Life.

Ok so a little background:

My fiance and I have been together 7 years now :w00t: and have purchased a house. I will be moving into the house in less than two weeks, he, on the other hand, will not be moving in until we get married (to appease his parents). SO... we are trying to determine the logistics of getting married in, well... 2 months!?!?!?! (Remember, NOT a shot-gun wedding :pinch:

I am a planner by nature but I have ABSOLUTELY no idea where to begin! :w00t: With a new house (a first for us both as we move out of the parents place) and a frantic hopeful wedding on the horizon I look to reach out to others for advice.

So, please, advise! Even if it took you a year to plan your day, all crazy tips are welcome.

Simple weddings

I thought I'd start a thread for people who are keeping their weddings simple. A lot of what gets discussed on this board is not feasible for the bride on a $4,000 - $9,000 budget. All the extra ideas can get overwhelming!

My original budget was $6,000 but we ended up spending around $8,000. I had flowers at the church and reception, bouquets and pin-holes, favours, and paid for hair and make-up. I did not have bridesmaids or children involved in the wedding, and didn't hire a professional photographer. We didn't bother with a limousine. I don't drive, and we don't own a car, so it was car-pooling all the way :)
My dress was under $300, and my husband wore a suit he had bought long before the wedding but never worn. My shoes were $26 from Zellers, and my veil was less than $20 from eBay.

So I am planning our August 13, 2011 wedding and I am stuck. We have our reception venue, which is a Chinese restaurant in Markham. The problem is that I can't seem to find a ceremony site. We are having a civil ceremony, so churches are pretty much out of the question. I don't know how I feel about having a ceremony outdoors because I don't want to leave the weather to chance.

Do you know of any ceremony venues in the Markham area? I am thinking of art galleries, theatres, etc.

Small Weddings...

So, FH and I were talking about wedding planning and the topic of budget came up...and he suggests that we keep it to immediate family (Grandparents, parents, siblings and their dates) and few friends only...which cuts our guest count from 81 to about 40.

I am a bit afraid of offending family members-and then when it comes to Christmas or other family gatherings that people will be upset/angry with us. We did talk to his Mom and she said that people on her side of the family wouldn't be too offended (they would understand because we're the ones footing the bill).We still need to talk to his Dad or his Grandmother...

So far we are thinking of having a late morning ceremony followed by tea time/reception lunch. It looks like dancing will be cut out. We will have speeches, cake cutting, maybe bouquet toss...

We are thinking of maybe doing a group activity afterward in the evening (bowling or something like that).

I am wondering, for those brides who had small weddings, what did you do? Did you also have a dinner and activity afterward?

I understand about keeping to a budget but I also want to have a nice event...

Theme ideas

Hello everyone!

I was wondering if anyone has any ideas they could share with me, regarding themes and centerpieces. I want to go with a tropical elegance theme, with a touch of romance. I'm thinking along the darker hues of the tropics, like purples, deep fushia, deep orange and palm leaves. I've also chosen my vases, they are going to be a square-ish style and 3 inches wide and about 21 inches tall. I'm just having trouble bringing my idea to light.

I would also like to hear your thoughts on table linens, for a theme such as mine. Our hall is providing everything for us, but they only have ivory or white tablecloths and chaircovers. The napkins come in a bigger selection. I was thinking about renting coloured tablecloths/overlay and using matching napkins or using the ivory ones. That way, my only expense is the cloth/overlay.

Does anyone have ANY ideas??

Looking for Packaging Shop

I'm searching for a packaging shop in the GTA for pretty boxes, envelopes, bags, creative solutions, etc.

I've googled it and all I came up with were industrial packaging options. I need something that might cater to the wedding crowd.

I'm actually using it for something other than a wedding (product packaging) but thought some enterprising DIY bride on here might know of a place. I recall visiting one such place in an industrial area of the GTA back in 2003 when I was planning my wedding but for the life of me I can't recall the name. It was a huge place and carried all sorts of packaging ideas for all sorts of things.

I have also checked out Michael's but didn't find what I need.

Anyone have any ideas?

I'm starting to plan what gifts I'll be getting for my bridesmaids, which made me think about all the presents I've received over the years when I was a bridesmaid/MOH, what I loved the most, and what I hated :P

And I thought it might be fun to share with you all, and have you share too!

I'll go first:

THE BEST: A very delicate necklace with tiny CZs - it was just costume jewelry for the day, but the little stones was so sparkly :) I wore it ever day until the chain broke and then kept the pieces :)

THE WORST: a heart-shaped jewelry box that looked like it was made out of some kind of dull metal, ornately "carved" with little metal roses. Couldn't give it away as it had my name engraved on it :P

New here, planning 2011 wedding

Hi everyone,

New to the site & the board. I am planning my 2011 wedding and am really excited to get started. My fiance and I actually started dating 9 years ago, were engaged very quickly but due to the fact that we were busy with our careers and we aren't religious, we never really took time to plan anything. We had always figured we'd elope the next time we went on a vacation - problem is, we never did go on another vacation! In the meantime, we have had 2 kids (ages 5 & 20 months). Now that our lives are settling into a nice routine, we've finally decided to have our wedding. It's going to be small and low key (less than 50 guests we figure) but I'm still thrilled to be planning it and as I'm a bit of a control freak about certain things, I want every detail to be perfect. :)

We've decided on a morning ceremony with a brunch reception. That is completely our style, plus we'd really like the kids to be included in everything so an evening reception just won't do. I think I'm taking on quite the task with a morning wedding. We will not have much time for details the day of the wedding so everything will have to be in place ahead of time.

Looking forward to chatting with the other brides, can't wait to share ideas.

Gifts for junior ushers

Hello,

We wanted to include FH's lil brothers in the wedding party, but not as best men or groomsmen so we decided to have them as junior ushers. I wanted to know if you have any ideas what to get them as gifts?

We bought the guys hockey jerseys of their favorite team, signed by the whole team. The girls I got them a coach wristlet and I'm going to buy them a necklack or something to go with it. The flower girl we're going to buy a "bride" barbie and either a necklace or earings.

I was wondering if anyone knows of a place where I can order shot glass favors in Canada?

I found a site in the states but I would like to avoid paying duties and UPS fees by purchasing in Canada.
