Hey! The priest who agreed to come to our wedding and give a blessing is a long-time family friend. He's known for being more non-traditional. If you really want a Catholic priest to bless you, ask around....but I know that most priests wouldn't because it definitely is out of the ordinary. I'm not actually sure if the blessing will "mean" anything officially in the Catholic church (I'm pretty sure it won't), but it is more just for us (and for my grandma ;) ).

In terms of being close to a standard church service, I would put the song between the second reading and the priest's message. JMO :)

I know it's not common, but for our ceremony, everything is already laid out and we can't really vary from the wording much at all. We can choose our readings, etc, but the stuff the minister has to say is all set in stone.

You might want to ask your officiant if that is the case for you as well.

And you can have as much or as little music as you like. I think "standard" is coming down the aisle, during the signing of the register, and walking back up the aisle. And during communion if you're having it.
