Then I photocopied a bunch of pictures of the two of us growing up (in black and white). I cut them out with scrapbooking scissors, glued them on in a collage format, then covered them whith a gloss. It turned out beautiful!!

RE: Card Boxes for Reception

This is a picture (kind of) of the card box my sister used at her wedding, with all the pictures around it! The fabric matched the fabric draped on the headtable (re-used as table runners). Just cut a hole in the top ahead of time, made sure to wrap fabric aroud it and worked wonders.

Don't worry - I couldn't be less crafty. But this one worked!

RE: Card Boxes for Reception

I have always wanted a beautiful decorative birds cage so I might go with that. Otherwise Ill try to find one Ill use again or something that goes with the theme that i can rent. OR just make something on the cheap aka take a cardboard box cover with fabric ribbons etc etc

2 very different things i have seen: in one wedding her parents had given them a canoe for a wedding present and so that is where people put their cards. In another wedding they used a lobster trap his parents had brought with them from Novia Scotia.

RE: Card Boxes for Reception

i bought a super plain one from some craft store for 25 bucks...but my crazy artistic friend has offered to do it for me.......so she is going to decorate it all nice..but..i thought for 25 bucks...so much cheaper!hahah

RE: Card Boxes for Reception

Speaking of leaving a note to let ppl know what the cardbox is for, I just came up with a cute little poem I'm going to use! :) I'm so proud of myself! LOL

"A wonderful keepsake for years to come, your cards of well wishes and words of wisdom!"

RE: Card Boxes for Reception

I have been agonizing over this for a while, I love birdcages and have wanted a decorative one, but I find them so expensive. I can't find a box look I like and can't justify spending money on a chest either. I don't plan on keeping the item, so I don't want to spend much money on it. My mother sort-of collects baskets by accident, she has a ton but can't remember where they all came from. She has offered that I can take my pick o all her baskets and paint or decorate it any way I want. I am going to take a nice large one with a nice handle that she has. I am going to stain it dark (it is blond wood, but my colours are copper and chocolate), wrap the handle in ribbon and add some flowers to spiffy it up a bit. I may make a cover for it with cardboard wrapped in fabric, but I may just leave it open.

Anything big enough to hold the envelopes is sufficient. Take a look around your local dollarama, find a large plastic container, buy some spray paint in your wedding colours or jut plain white and then find some nice ribbon or lace to glue around the lip of the lid. If you need help I could write out some pretty good instructions that even the least crafty person could follow. Using an exacto knife, you just cut out a hole in the top for the cards to drop through and voila you have a card box.

What is your theme? If you have a beach theme, get a galvanized tub from the grocery (or a plastic one that looks like a painted galvanized tub from the Dolarama) and fill it with some sand and a few seashells. You add a small sign that reads "Place cards here" add a botle with a scroll in it into the tub and maybe a "fake" card to show people that they can just stick it in to the sand. If you are having a new-years themed wedding, try buying one of those giant beer or coke bottle piggy banks that stand about 3 feet tall. Get one of those "galvanized tubs" (remember that you can spray-paint the plastic cheap ones to be silver too), fill the tub with celophane to look like ice and place the bottle in it. Decorate the bottle to look like a bottle of champagn and make the coin slot a little bigger so that it will fit cards.

If you have to, go to Toys-R-Us and buy a pinata and just leave it empty and cut a hole in the top for the cards. This would be great for a princess (cinderella) wedding, a butterfly wedding, a western wedding...etc. You could even have fun with your new hubby and try to bash it open to get to the cards!

RE: Card Boxes for Reception

I ended up purchasing a rattan box with lid to use, this way I can reuse the item later. I am trying to ensure most of what I buy I would actually reuse in the future, except for my dress! Thanks for the idea of using a note to signify what the box is for, did not think of it.

RE: Card Boxes for Reception

i'm selling mine from my wedding as I don't need it any more pic is attached let me know if you're interrested i've also posted in the for sale section. i'm in the GTA

RE: Card Boxes for Reception

What about a "letter box"?
