It was special to my fiance and I b/c they literally saved both his niece and my sisters lives, both of whom are in our wedding party. I caught flack from one person, and I simply said to them "you'd seriously rather have a fracking pen or bag of mints rather than know any child in your life will have an excellent hospital to take care of theM? and YOU are calling ME selfish?"

that shut them up :D

that said, if you don't have time, I highly reccomend the donation. If you are lacking time and fundage, I seriously wouldn't even give it a second thought about favors. Some of the older folks might notice, but I think in our generation, we all understand that weddings cost money, and that little pen or bag of mints just really isn't all that crucial :)

RE: Is anyone not doing favours?

I was at a wedding recently where they didn't give favours, and to be honest I didn't even notice until a few days later when I was thinking about it. THey definitely weren't missed by me.

RE: Is anyone not doing favours?

I wasn't going to do them just because of the cost. However, it was really important to my father (he is european and re-married an italian, so it is a big deal to them). He offered to pay for them since it was more for him, so we are going to give them out thanks to his help.

But if I went to a wedding and didn't get one, I don't really think it would bother me.

RE: Is anyone not doing favours?

I see nothing wrong at all with not providing your guests with favours...the guests are there to share in your special day, it's not about some cheap trinket that gets shoved to the back of a drawer or tossed in the trash when the guests get home.

However, if you have it in your budget, or want to have favours, there's also nothing wrong with that, either! I mean, it's only been tradition for how many years? It's your day! Have it your way! :P

That being said, we're not doing favours...

Instead we've donated to the Canadian Centre for Child Protection, as we've got 2 daughters, and can really appreciate what this organization does for families.

We will also **MAYBE** be doing a candy buffet, or I'll bake (my ginger snaps and butter tarts are to die for...not to brag or anything ;) ), and do a 'baking buffet'. A few of my (married) friends are saying I'm nuts to want to take that on, that I'll be pulling my hair out already without adding the stress of baking for 40 people...but baking really does relax me...it's a mindless activity with some pretty yummy results! Although all that testing might not be so good for fitting into the dress on the big day!

We'll see... :hehe:

RE: Is anyone not doing favours?

Not doing favors at shower or wedding. As a guest I certainly would not be offended not receiving anything, most probably wouldn't even notice.

RE: Is anyone not doing favours?

I'm not doing favours but I am having a candy buffet and donation to the heart and stroke foundation in memory of my dad

RE: Is anyone not doing favours?

I gave favours, but only because I ended up with enough time and money to do them.

I don't believe they are an essential part of a wedding. They are definitely optional.

RE: Is anyone not doing favours?

I am split. depends on how much money i have left. Either I will do something like make a candy apple or some of my great grandmothers cookies, or noting. I just dont see the point since I will have alot of decor stuff they can take.

I am gonna have a bunch of potted plants and herbs, mason Jar candles etc etc most of which I dont want to keep because ill have alot of them. lots of centre pieces and decor as I am having long tables not round.

RE: Is anyone not doing favours?

I'm wavering.

I originally did not want to do this. i was instead going to do a donation to the MS Society (I had an aunt who passed from MS).

BBBUUUTTTTTT I have been getting so much flack, from everyone from bridesmaids to in laws to brothers. I keep saying it"s not like I'm NOT doing anything, just something to honour my aunt's memory! Come on people.

So I may do both. Favours aren't that important to me, but some people obviously regard them as essential. Going with the flow, I am.

RE: Is anyone not doing favours?

As a guest, I would have no problem with not receiving a favour :) That's not what a wedding is about, IMO. Thank you cards cover the gratitude aspect.

In fact, there are favours that I have from weddings that I really don't have a place for, and they've just become clutter, but I can't bring myself to get rid of them because I know a lot of work was put into them.

RE: Is anyone not doing favours?

I rarely take a favour when I go to a wedding. I go to a wedding/reception to celebrate the couple's marriage, not to bring home a souvenir. That being said, I am doing favours, but I also have less than 15 guests, and it is a Canadian destination wedding, so my favours are souvenirs from PEI too....

RE: Is anyone not doing favours?

I have gone to wedding where I didn't get a favor and I was fine with it.

Is anyone not doing favours?

I am not doing favours. I think that between the invitation, the meal, and the fact that anyone who wants one of my candle centerpieces can have one, it just seemed silly to give little bags of mints. My FH's sister got married 3 years ago and didn't have favours and people seemed OK with not getting some $2 token.

Opinions anyone?

3 weeks from tomorrow July 27/08:w00t:
