Our contractor thought the paint looked great - all the little imperfections can only be seen by me. Yea!! I can finally throw in the paint brush and move along to picking out furniture. Much, much more fun!!!!

RE: painting

oh. no.

this thread scares me.

just bought a house, and it needs a TON of paint. we get the keys next friday, and I am NOT looking forward to all the painting we have to do before the wedding.

wish me luck!

RE: painting

I totally recommend Aura by benjermin moore. It's not cheap but it covers most colours in 1 coat. It has a built in primer so no need for that either. We cover bright green and bright blue (I'm talking neon) with a nice lighter green in one coat. We painted our entire house before we moved in with the paint in one week. Only one room required more then 1 coat. The nice thing about it is that if you find a spot that you missed you can just go over that spot and it blends in perfectly!

RE: painting
teenietiny (7/8/2008)
if you use tinted primer, then you should only need 1 coat of paint.
I used tinted primer but the color that they gave me was a light blue and I painted the walls a dark navy so I had to keep going over it to totally cover all the light blue. I don't think that paint that I'm using covers very well. I will NOT be buying it again.

RE: painting

if you use tinted primer, then you should only need 1 coat of paint.

RE: painting
adegroot (7/8/2008)
I hear ya! We (or should I say I since my husband works such long hours) are in the middle of painting the entire house and I'm ready to just bite the bullet and pay someone to finish the job. I can't stand it anymore. I wouldn't mind if everything just took one coat and I didnt have to do any edging. I painted the bathroom a nice navy blue and it took three coats! Has anyone seen the Mr. Bean when he sticks some dynomite in a paint can and blows it up to paint the room. I think he might have been on to something...:P
Did you wash the walls down with TSPe first? (using TSPe instead of just TSP is better because you don't have to rinse the walls like you do when you use just regular TSP). Did you use primer on the walls before you painted?

3 coats of paint seems to be a lot. If your walls are sucking in the paint that much, I'd start using a primer on the rest of the house before painting.

Good luck! I absolutely hate painting and I've not done any in a week. My arms, neck and shoulders ache all over. I've had to keep seeing my chiropractor to help get things back in place where they should be. SO DH is going to be finishing the house for us.

RE: painting

I hear ya! We had to paint our entire house inside when we moved in last year and I'm still scarred from the experience! There are some small areas that still need to be painted-like the back of one of the bathroom doors and I can't bring myself to break out the painting gear again! Maybe now that I'm preggo, DH will take pity and do it since I'm not supposed too;)

RE: painting

So I am on the verge of a major freak out!!

We started to take the tape down from the ceiling and in the process it is ripping some of the wall paint with it. I was so careful I can't figure out exactly what has gone wrong. Grrrrrrrr! Now I hate painting even more!!!!!

RE: painting

DH painted today - now he knows how much I hurt LOL - my arms still ache from all the rolling. I did assist him today though and I edged the walls, which is farrrrr easier than rolling.

1 more wall in the living room to do and the main floor is almost done, except for the kitchen which is last on the list so we can still eat while we get it all done.

the only thing I think I'll hate more than rolling, is painting all the trim. However, we've decided that trim and doors will be tackled after we do the kitchen walls and cabinets.

I'll be SOOOOOO happy once this is all done ... only 2 more levels to finish LOL :hehe:

RE: painting

I HATE PAINTING TOO!!! AND we'll probably paint the room that we're going to make a nursery soon too....

I HATE PAINTING!

RE: painting

I can't wait to see the pics! We have renovated FH's house and now the entire living room, dining room, front hall, stairway, upper hall and bathroom need to be painted. I started the other night and by the end I was saying few nasty words. I know there are people who love to do it...maybe they could come over?? ;)

painting

we are painting our townhouse .... ughhhhhh I officially hate painting!! My arms hurt, my lower back hurts - I hate painting. Did I mention that I HATE painting???

However, I do love the colour we are painting - it's soooooooooo much nicer than the ugly boring cream that it was. We've gone with a light taupe colour and it looks fabulous with our dark chocolate brown furniture and burgundy accents. I'll post a photo later once it's all done.

But I still hate painting LOL :hehe:
