I wanted a dress that wasnt too white and the diamond white I thought wasa little more subtle.
No, it's not about the shine or finish of the fabric, it's just the colour. Diamond White is a softer white than stark white. Think about when you go to a paint store and get paint chips for picking colours with. You get a strip with 4 shades of the same colour right?

Ok now think of stark white as the white primer paint that you put on walls before painting, and think of the diamond white as a nice creamy eggshell white paint. They'd probably be on the same paint chip as they're in the same colour "category" but are just slightly off from one another shade wise. Get it?

The slight pigment change between the two is really all the difference. They both look white in photos, like a PP said. The difference is just in the shade of the white. Stark white has no other colour pigment in it. Diamond White or Champagne may have a pinkish pigment to the white or a yellowish pigment to the white, etc. to take it just a shade off of stark white. IT's just more complimentary to a wider range of skin tones. Stark white can be hard on the eyes and can totally wash out someone with light skin.

I tried on a dress in light gold (like a champagne) and I loved it personally but that was a fair bit darker than a diamond white. It was definitely a light gold.

I tried on Diamond White dresses as well and I didn't think they looked dirty next to the stark white but it does look yellow-y if right next to it because it does have some yellowy pigment compared to the stark white and when you put them side by side you will see the difference.

I am sure if you go to a menswear/tux shop and tell the salesguy your dress is diamond white and you don't want the m en wearing stark white he will find something complimentary. Be sure to ask your bridal shop for a fabric colour swatch for your dress so you can match it in the tux shop more easily.

RE: Quick Question (Diamond White)
Belram (5/31/2008)
I know Moore's has diamond white! Diamond white definately looks "off" next to white white so go for the off white grooms shirts.
Really??? the Moores that I'm renting from (Vancouver, BC) gave me a choice of white or ivory...and I would have loved diamond white.

Anyways, my dress is diamond white (by maggie) and we are going with bright white shirts. The ivory shirt at Moores looked really yellow to me.

RE: Quick Question (Diamond White)

My dress is diamond white and the guys are in ivory shirts.

RE: Quick Question (Diamond White)

I know Moore's has diamond white! However, when you put my dress next to a dress that is white, you can see a subtle difference. Like someone else had mentioned, the diamond white dress looks more matte than the white dress.

My fiance is getting white shirts because with my dress in particular it looks white. When I tried veils on to match, the white one looked better than the diamond white veil so I guess it all depends on the dress and fabric.

RE: Quick Question (Diamond White)

I agree with Alana under all that stuff you probably won't notice the difference in shades...sides all eyes are on the bride..

RE: Quick Question (Diamond White)

hmmm ...diamond white eh!!!

RE: Quick Question (Diamond White)

The guys are gonna be in vests, ties, and jackets... you're barely gonna see any shirt. I remember a salesman talking about that at a shop. I guess there is a difference when you put the white and diamond white next to eachother.

RE: Quick Question (Diamond White)

Perfect explination I think! I even learned a couple of things

Wedding Dress, Designer Gown Colors

Off white. Stark white. Bright white. And what the heck is eggshell? Choosing a shade of white for your wedding gown has become almost as difficult as choosing the gown itself. Here's everything you need to know to get the right white.

The Shades

Stark White
The brightest, crispest white you can find. Looks great on dark skin.

Silk, Diamond, or Natural White
A shade off of stark white, though it looks pretty much the same in photos. "Eighty percent of the population looks best in a soft, diamond-white dress, which isn't as chalky as a white-white," explains dress designer Melissa Sweet. "When in doubt, buy diamond white."

Ivory
Also referred to as "eggshell" or "candlelight." Some ivory dresses have yellow undertones, making them look creamy; some are just a "quiet" white.

Rum or Champagne
A white with pink undertones that looks nearly white in photos.

The Selection

The key to finding your shade? Knowing your skin tone.

If your skin is fair: you'll look best in yellow-ivories and warmer natural colors. You should probably steer clear of stark white, though -- it may wash you out.

If your skin is medium with pink undertones: opt for creamier colors.

If your skin is medium with yellow undertones: try diamond whites or champagne.

If your skin is dark: lucky you -- most shades of white will complement your skin. If you have yellow or olive undertones, though, stay away from yellow-ivory dresses. Try stark white or rum pink.

When trying on different dresses in a bridal salon, keep in mind that the samples may be dirty, so while the fabric is "white," it may appear a shade off from its actual color, and therefore will look more flattering than it really is against your skin. Be sure to ask for a clean fabric swatch to place near your face before making your final decision.

I think we are just going with white tops for the guys. I dont think its going to make that big of a difference if we have white or ivory for the guys??

I hope this helps everyone. ;)

RE: Quick Question (Diamond White)

My dress is diamond white as well. My question is what are you doing about the guys shirts? If the groom and grooms men wear white it will make the diamond white dress look dirty.
