Bought mine off of ebay for 47.00 from the US not in yet, will let you know. I also bought another dress off of ebay, it was beautiful but wasn't the right colour.

I looked at dresses on ebay. I haven't bought anything yet, but a few things that stand out.

1) Sometimes, they are authentic dresses that are either already worn by happy brides or from stores/sellers getting rid of floor samples or older stock. (Sometimes need dry cleaning, which can run around $200, at least in Ottawa.)

2) The shipping is often insanely inflated. READ THE SMALL PRINT. TWICE!! Especially with the China/Hong Kong sellers. And I don't mean that as any kind of racial slur, but IME, they're more likely to add extra charges, on top of the shipping charges.

3) If it's too good to be true, it just might be. If you want to go for it, do it, but be aware and prepared for the risk you're taking :)

I have been checking out ebay for the past couple of days as well as weddingo.net. Anyone have any experiences with weddingo? I found a forum thread by googling it and it seemed as if they ripped all of their customer testimonials from house of brides and other places like that.

Maybe ebay would be the way to go because you can tell for sure that their testimonials and feedback are real???

Anyone who has ordered from ebay, PLEASE post sellers! I know there are already a few in this thread....

I posted my dress on another topic thread, but here it is again...my ebay bought wedding gown for my destination wedding that cost me $99 USD + $25 S&H and I L-O-V-E it!!!!!!!

I think it's a really good priced, awesome quality & fabric, perfect to my measurements not needing any alterations to it, and so easy to pack and I don't have to worry about it too much!!!

Note: I also researched the ebay seller's reputation...prior to placing my bid and payment.

I just ordered my gown off of ebay. I got mine from Just the Dress. I haven't recieved it yet, so I don't know the quality, but they have a 99.7% rating and beautiful dresses! Mine was more than the others who've posted, it was $399 USD + $69 for the crinoline + $39 dollars shipping (with insurance) and $19 dollars for the bag. Of course the crinoline and bag aren't required, but I wanted to make sure I got the same crinoline that the pic was taken with. Ended up being just over $500 USD all together. Not too bad in my books! Here's the dress I just bought:

Oh and about the $1-3 dollars dresses, they all seem to have REALLY high shipping rates, so that's we're they're making up for the price. I'd say if you're considering it, make sure you read their feedback and see what people have to say!

Were there any ebay stores you could recommend or specific ebayer's where you ladies have purchased gowns from?

I'd like to check them out.

The gowns you all have shown are GORGEOUS!

Red detailed dresses seem to be a hot ticket. Im sort of kicking myself for buying my red and white gown from a specialty shop now that I hear the prices you all have paid.

I got my wedding gown off ebay, it was a bridal shop sample and although tried on, showed no sign of wear. It cost $170 CDN with delivery and although I shall have to pay for alteration, I don't care! It is a real red and black wedding gown, exactly what I am looking for. The material is great, and so is the lining, the fixed crimoline is not cheap and the crystal and lace are stunning. The bridal shop was reputable and just thinning out their collections.

I had a great success with my fiind and even my mother (who would have prefered white) has to admit that this gown is stunnning!

did you notice with those $10 gowns the shipping is $130+? wow that is crazy they are obviously making their money on the shipping!!!! mine was $60 including insurance!!!

I also bought my dress off of ebay. I was quite happy with it actually. The only problem I had was that the dress pictured on the ebay auction had buttons down the back and my dress was supposed to have buttons but it didn't. It took me ages to notice and didn't really make much difference to the dress I found so it didn't really bother me. I had to have mine let out because I didn't manage to lose the weight I needed to fit into it as is. I made sure to ask that there was enough material to let it out though before I purchased it.

I am also a bride who bought my dress on ebay. I searched and searched for a dress I found that I loved and read the description of the dress and emailed the seller a few times before buying the dress. The dress was made to my specifications. I, too, was worried about ordering online - dont' get to try it on, feel the material, etc...but I took a chance (checked the feedback - all positive) and ordered the dress. it took about a month to come in and when I opened the dress, tried it on...it was a perfect fit and very well made. I couldn't have asked for a better dress for only $199US. I don't need any alterations and they did a beautiful job making it and the fabric is beautiful.

If you do order off e-bay...do your research into the seller's company first, read the feedback and ask all questions before placing order.

I looked at buying an ebay gown but then got cold feet at the last minute. I noticed though that the $1-$3 Asian-made dresses had a much larger shipping cost than the $70 dresses ($70 vs $35). At the end they ended up costing about the same. I was so tempted to buy a cheap dress of there and if it hadn't worked out just get another one at the store... but I am getting a dress of another CBer and it's costing me "slightly" more but at least I had the chance to try it one before committing to it

I too am a ebay dress buyer and I love my dress! It is very well made with bridal satin the embroidery is awesome and I love the fact it was made to order. I paid $145 total including shipping. But like the ladies said do your research...check out the seller and seller background.

Well I'm an ebay dress buyer myself just last week!! I'd be very leary of $1-$3 dresses!!! I bought mine from searching wedding dresses, came across a pic that I thought looked good and read the sellers info....Aislegowns.com........I called and asked alot of questions and when the dress got here last week (it was listed at $149.00 US and cost me $250 cdn to my door, including EVERYTHING) I was blown away!!:D (some of you read and saw my pics!! lol) If you do the research on the seller and can speak with someone then I'd definitely buy....but if you can't do that then I wouldn't buy from that seller! I bought my dress of an asia based vendor. I paid my dress 69.99 and I knew I was getting a replica. I was worried but figured at that price, I could still get another dress if it came back and was horrible. I was extremely happy and relieved when it got back and it was exactly like the picture. My seamstress saw and he coudln't believe where I got it and for how much. I guess it depends on the vendor.

Here is a picture of my dress. It may not be a 1k to 10k dress but it's darn fine for a dress I'll wear ONCE.

I did my research, checked the feedback etc. The material is the same quality that you can pay $30+ dollars a metre for in a fabric store. there is one tiny seam that needs 2 stitches on. I had to send my measurements to them so it was made just for me(not sure if it is a sweatshop) and fits like a glove no repairs ,adjustments etc. I very well might have got lucky but hey, I have a beautiful gown that I am very happy with!!!! The only issue is if I lose the weight I want to.lol but hey I would have to have it altered anyway!:w00t:

I'd be careful with ebay ... really check out the seller and the reviews on them. A gown for 1-3 $ is suspicious .. you get what you pay for. Some brides have purchased gowns and have to have them altered in some way because the length was off or something similar... research and choose wisely ... what seems to be a money saver may end up costing you more in the long run.

I had the "pleasure" of seeing one of these ebay made in China dresses up close. Holy cheapness! The material was cheap, the beads were loose - it was just so ugly and cheap up close. If I didn't have the money to spend on a brand new gown, I'd just buy off the rack, through the newspaper classifieds, or go to a consignment store.

I am one who purchased from ebay.Spent $170 for the dress and kept my fingers crossed! I figured if I hated it or it was cheaply made then it is only !170 so realistically it is not alot of money and I still had lots of time to find one but you know what.....it came it is exactly like the picture and it well made!! I can sew and the seams are great(much better than I can do lol). It worked out well for me!! And the best part...I don't look like a beached whale in it ..yahooo:D

Designer gowns can only be purchased from approved stores. They are not available online. The are obviously knockoffs or they could be possibly dresses with imperfections as China manufactures alot of the dresses we buy here. I would never buy a gown online as the fits are so different with each style and designer that you would have to try it on.

I've seen those on ebay and they do look suspicious. I have heard on other message boards of girls winning a dress from somewhere in china and getting a crappy knock-off. My fh actually bid on a PLC from Hong Kong a while ago and the deal looked great until he noticed that there were other auctions listed that looked the same as the one he was bidding on but the names where different. He did some research and found that 5 people had been scammed and had never received their PLC and the sellers were all from Hong Kong. Needless to say fh retracted his bid and it did end up being a scam. I'd be very weary, I'd go with a reputable ebay seller if I were you. JMHO

The bidding periods were nearly out on many, with several bids made. Found no reserve on those I looked at. The majorty were listed from various Asian locations and had similar wording and layout, though the sellers' names were often different.

I've found some really great deals on Ebay before, but...:rolleyes: I've seen many of these gowns on other sites and they're not cheap. Are these dresses sweat shop reproductions? A money scam?
