It's a little far but well worth it. I live in Toronto and have dealt with some of the stores here. (We will be getting married in Ottawa as our family is there) IT was the first store I went to in the Ottawa area and I ended up buying. The service was excellent. They also have a HUGE selection of dresses. I wasn't expecting that.

So far so good!!! Good luck!!

RE: wedding dress shopping in ottawa

Ok!

Dominique Levesque has 2 stores : the one in Gatineau pays attention to you, but not pushy, great service

the one in ottawa...you're on your own! They had tonnes of selection and the sales lady (Nancy) was super nice. I tried on at least 20 dresses and she never made me feel like I was wasting her time (as I've felt in a few dress stores).

She encouraged us to take lots of pictures so I could go home and look at them (no pressure to buy when I was there). Now that I've had a chance to review I have made up my mind and am calling today to order my dress! Actually, it was a dress I didn't even want to try on but she suggested that it would look good on me.

I can't recommend this store enough! Definitely worth the drive!

RE: wedding dress shopping in ottawa

i would try justina mccaffrey. i bought my dress at their boutique in TO and they were so nice. the dresses are couture so a bit pricey but they are made to fit your body and all alterations etc are free.

RE: wedding dress shopping in ottawa

I tried dress shopping in Ottawa but found that there werent enough choices and things tended to be overpriced. So I drove to Montreal and shopped on St. Hubert instead where there are a billion bridal shops. I found my dress in one day! I had to go 3 times in total. once to look around, once for fitting and alternations, and the last time to pick it up. It was definitly worth the drives! I got an amazing dress at a great price.

RE: wedding dress shopping in ottawa

cedar closet and the bridal connection do not let you take pictures..go to Sinders they have awesome selection and so friendly and let you take all thepictures you want!

RE: wedding dress shopping in ottawa

Also, I was allowed to take photos in both stores.

RE: wedding dress shopping in ottawa

Yen's bridal is awful!! They were very friendly, not overly pushy and had a good selection. The prices also seemed reasonable. I would definitely recommend them. My only complaint was that they didn't want us to take pictures. However, when I said that I would never buy a gown without seeing how I photograph in it first she agreed to let my friend take a few pictures of my favorite one.

On a side note, do any of you Ottawa brides remember which stores did/did not allow you to take pictures?

RE: wedding dress shopping in ottawa

I have now also gone to Baroness (bank), Cedar Closet (lisgar) and Sherilyn's boutique (nicholas). I wasn't too fond of the lady at Baroness, she was quite rude at the start and when I told her my budget (under 2000) she gave me a "look" that even my friend noticed but she did let me try on about 7 or 8 dresses and gave me opinions and warmed up after awhile. I know there have been ALOT said about Cedar closet on this site as well as others but I had a pleasant experience there. I am not sure if it was the owner or not helping me but it was older ish woman and she was friendly enough..I might have found the one but not sure yet..and then at Sherilyn's Boutique I didn't have an appointment so she pretty much shunned me but she let me look at the dresses and then let me try one on JUST ONE though..even though it was completely dead in there but whatever..I would recommend all these places. lots of selection and different price ranges! goodluck all my fellow ottawa brides to be!

RE: wedding dress shopping in ottawa

Thanks for the review orchid :)

It's nice to see other Ottawa brides! I went to Mia Bridal co. on merivale rd, they have such gorgeous dresses but if you're on a tight budget I wouldn't recommend it although it was super fun trying them on! (dresses range from 3000-7000..ouch) but were ridiculously beautiful and the girl working there was really nice and friendly too. Then I went to Martino's (on bank) and they have a ton of selection if you're looking for more traditional dresses (I am looking for no beading or very little which they only had a few of) and the help there was pretty good and a good price range too (the dresses I tried were like 5-600). FInally I went to Yen's (on somerset)and had heard many things, and I didn't really have a problem with the man who works there but he was very quiet..there's a good selection but the only thing was that they had a ton of dresses in size 6 that I liked and I wouldn't even bother trying them on (way too small) so that was the only thing I didn't like. goodluck to all the ottawa brides..I plan on going to cedar closet and baroness which I can walk to so I will post about those later.

RE: wedding dress shopping in ottawa

I ordered my dress at Cedar Closet on Tuesday.

I found the service from the staff & the owner was fantastic and their prices were reasonable.

RE: wedding dress shopping in ottawa

No idea about regional price differences, but IMO, if you're dropping several hundred dollars on a dress, no one who gives you poor customer service deserves your business!

Keep looking around if you're not feeling confident in them :)

RE: wedding dress shopping in ottawa

thanks for the advice!

I went to Dominique Levesque today. I called to make an apointment for 1 PM and she told me it would be better if I came at 3 because then there would be two people there so one could help me if somebody else came in. I'm not sure why though because neither of them helped me and both just stayed at the front of the store talking to each other. I also noticed that 2 of the dresses I tried on last week in a store in Sudbury were almost twice the price at Dominique Levesque. I wonder if that's just a coincidence of if dresses are actually much cheaper in Nothern Ontario?

RE: wedding dress shopping in ottawa

I haven't gone anywhere yet, but I've heard good things about the Cedar Closet as well :)

RE: wedding dress shopping in ottawa

I actually liked the cedar closet.

I also went to Layseing, and although a bit pushy, they have a good selection, and tgey make a lot of their dresses, so you can choose exactly how you want it.

I first went Yen's bridal on s Saturday, and had the worst experience because of the guy who works there (the guy even told my friend her taste was out of style!).
