Love my Ring

Ok, i absolutely LOVE my e-ring, it is one of the past-present-future rings, and it has 6 tiny diamonds 3 on each side of the 3 larger ones. now the diamons on the middle are not HUGE, but they are no means tiny. my friend is going on and on about how her ring is going to cost 5000 because her diamond is going to be HUGE, i tried to explain to her that the size of the diamond does not matter to me, or the cost, i am not very materialistic, i am more sentimental, so the meaning behind the ring is a million times more important to me then the karat size or the price tag, but she continues to knock my e-ring it makes me feel kinda crapy and my FH even crappier because he thinks i dont like my e-ring.

What can i say to her that will make her stop saying things about my FH choice of ring or diamond size, and even more important, what do i say to FH to make him know i love what he gave me, and he could have given me a ring from the 25 cent machines! :hehe:

Well even though FI has no idea what me dress looks like he picked out some jewellery for me to wear on our wedding day he said maybe I could pass it down when our daughter (even though we don't have one) get's married and start a new tradition. It's amazing how it works perfectly with the dress. And he said maybe I'll get the earings for Christmas.

What do you care about more size or quality of the ring? How big is everyone's diamond and what is the quality of it? Mine is a 1.22 platinum diamond ring and the quality is VS1. I could have had a 3 carat diamond ring because we got the ring from a wholesaler but I decided quality mattered, the 3 carat diamond had a lot of imperfections!

Fh's band is a Tungsten Ring with Black Diamonds

Mine will be the ring below, only custom made and upgraded diamonds (the one from Peoples/Zales looks yellow-ish against my E-ring!) It will also have diamonds on one of the sides! The "rubber" version will be ready by next Wednesday for my approval...I cant wait :D

I'd just like everyone to know they should stay away from Spence Diamonds.

They have no clue what customer service is. And because of that I am now getting married without a wedding band. After the Toronto store took over 24 hrs to track down why my ring had not yet arrived there version of the store is they were having problems creating my size 4 ring but no where in the past 3 weeks did they feel the need to notify me.

And to top it off they can't even give me a loaner.

So is it bad luck if the priest doesn't have a ring to bless?

besides blue nile are there any other canadian places to order on line?

Spence Diamonds

We found my engagement ring at Spence Diamonds in Calgary and I wanted to share our positive experience. After looking around at quite a number of jewelers in town, my FH and I decided to stop into Spence one Sunday. We were greeted by a very nice sales associate named Andrew who explained how the store worked, gave us a tray in which we could put rings that might be "the one", and asked what style I liked. Then he showed us where the different types of rings were located in the store and left us to browse on our own.

It was amazing! So many rings to choose from!!! We loved that we could simply reach into the showcases and try on any ring we wanted and were basically alone to discuss the different settings. Andrew stopped by now and then to explain a few things to us (like how the rings were priced with an "average" cost, and how our budget could be achieved by different sized diamonds and types of gold used in the rings). At one point I was trying on a ring and Andrew said they had the real thing set with diamonds in the store if I wanted to see what it would look like (the rings in their showcases are set with CZ's). He brought it out for me to try on.

I had the tray filled with rings ... it was like being a kid in a candy shop. There was so much to choose from I was having a hard time trying to decide. Then we found "it". I put it on and was instantly drawn to it. I knew it was "the one". We looked around a bit more and I thought at that point it was pointless. I knew which ring I wanted.

We hadn't really planned on me being there when he bought my engagement ring but there was no doubt for me and he really liked it too. It was as perfect as the man who wanted to put it on my finger.

Andrew then took us into an office and explained the 4 C's and showed us diamonds of different grades. Once we narrowed down the size, cut, color, and clarity we were looking for, he went into the vault and pulled a couple for us to take a close look at.

We chose the diamond we wanted, the type of gold for the band and put a deposit down on the ring. Andrew pulled my guy aside and said if he wanted to propose before the ring was ready they would provide the prototype as a loaner.

My ring had to be made after it was ordered. Two weeks later Andrew called to say it was ready.

I haven't seen the ring since that day but FH went and picked it up and says it's perfect. He has it set aside to "surprise me when I'm least expecting it". Our five year anniversary is coming up next month and I have a strong suspicion he's going to pop the question then.

The one thing we weren't impressed with was the small selection of wedding rings they had for men – but we found that to be true with every jeweler we've gone to (plus the online jewelers we've checked out). Fortunately we found a ring for him last weekend at Dana Dow Jewelers in Calgary. He wanted something with diamonds and sapphires and they had the perfect ring. It looks so good on his finger. We bought it and I was teasing him about buying his wedding ring before he even asked me to marry him.

Anyway ... we recommend Spence Diamonds and will be going back there to find a wedding band for me once we're "officially" engaged. We loved the selection, customer service, the guarantee they offer, and the whole experience. Yes we probably could have gotten a better deal on the diamond through BlueNile.ca but we're happy with our decision to buy from Spence.

so i've been engaged since may (9 months now) and for the THIRD time i am without my engagement ring for 10 days because the stone is loose.

it's a princess cut solitaire- so 4 prongs. i totally GET IT that it's normal for it to catch on things and need to be tightened every so often. but i had JUST gotten it back from being tightened on january 10th and it was loose again 3 weeks later.

so when i went back this time i asked for a manager and she explained the whole "this can happen with prong settings..." thing. but really- 3 weeks? it's platinum for cryin out loud! the thing can't be that delicate!

I just wanted to give BlueNile.ca a plug. We bought my wedding band from them and I couldn't be more pleased. Their customer service is excellent and the shipping was FAST. But best of all ... the quality of the ring is outstanding!

We looked at a number of jewelers in Calgary and found a band I liked (.50 carat of channel set diamonds in an 18 karat white gold band). The brick and mortar store was willing to sell it to us regular $1,800 for $1,200. Something told me to hold off and check BlueNile.ca before we committed.

I found the exact same ring for $800! Even better we had it independently appraised today and the value for my wedding band is over $2,000! The gemologist said the diamonds in it were very good quality and he's seen some really nice diamonds come from BlueNile in the past.

So ... if you're looking for good value that's the place to shop. The only trick is you'll need to have a local jeweler to take the ring to for cleaning, checking the prongs and settings, etc. down the road.

We went with a plain band each and I found we could save almost $200 by buying online. So I ordered from Ebay and they just arrived ! Didnt even have to pay any tax or duties, Yippee ! Ok now Im getting scared lol :w00t:

I'm going to get my daughter's birthstone (blue topaz) one on each side of the ring. I have mine and my fiance's on it, I have to have her on it :) love.

Ring Insurance

So, like all of you, I love my ring. But of course, it is stressful having something worth so much on my finger...or off of my finger. We ended up using our home insurance and got a jewellery rider. Our insurance is with State Farm, but I do not like the policy.

While your premium is based on the appraised value, they will take it to one of their "preferred jewellers" who will give them a quote to replace or fix the ring. You can not get cash value and the work has to be done by the winning bid jeweler.

I would like a policy where (a) I can get full cash value, but more importantly (b) I can choose the jeweler that I want to work with (my guy worked very closely with a local jeweler/artist to create the ring).

Any suggestions? Do you like your policies?

tell me about your simulated diamonds

My gf is about to get engaged but she and her boyfriend are consumed about how much wedding costs and not having money for both a ring and a wedding. I suggested simulated diamond e-ring but I don't know any info on them so any experience you have good or bad pls share so that I can pass it on! She says simulated diamonds will eventually get cloudy and obvious that it's a fake and how embarrassing would that be. I know there are different 'brands' out there as they are becoming more popular so if you have any thing that is simulated pls tell me your thoughts!

If you already have a simulated diamond (doesn't even have to be a ring), are you happy with it? Did you have it for a decent amount of time before it turned cloudy if at all?

dumb question re: rings

We got our wedding bands last week! I originally wanted plain yellow gold but I found a ring with small diamonds, $695 on for $347 so I got it. I couldn't refuse that deal, and it's a ring I had looked at before. I was worried about being "flashy", my e-ring has three stones. It's great!!

Anyhow, at your wedding, what do you do with your e-ring??? Where does it go? I was looking at pictures of my FSIL for example, she did not have her e-ring on before the wedding.

I got engaged on Halloween. Fh proposed to me in the middle of a corn maze at Downey's Farm. He was supposed to be taking a picture of me running through the corn field, so when I looked at the picture that was supposed to be me it was a picture of my ring box open and my ring inside. I don't remember anything he said or I said after that I think I just cried and laughed for like 5 mins. Despite a lot of peoples hesitation that it was on Halloween and a farm I thought it was absolutely perfect and completely us. We have a great story to tell and we will never forget what day we got engaged on!

That's my beautiful ring!!!! That is also the picture that I saw on the camera when he was supposed to have taken one me (I like this one better anyways!)

Okay here's the deal ... FH had my e-ring custom made (he designed it)and it's a unique shape. I am worried that a custom fit wedding band will take away from the e-ring instead of enhance it. I am considering picking a wedding band that is different from the e-ring and wearing them on separate hands, but both my mom and my FMIL think that's a ridiculous idea. Has anyone done this? opinions? suggestions?? please be honest!!!

Hey everyone, I'm getting married next month, and my e-ring doesn't look as shiny as my wedding band...I've heard white gold needs to be re-plated? Does anyone know where I can get this done relatively quickly? The place the e-ring came from went out of business, and I tried checking with Peoples and they need a week (I don't think I can be ringless for that long!). Any one know of a place that has same day service?? I'm located in Toronto. Thanks!!!

Alright..I shall try to keep this short, but we'll see lol. So my FH bought me a ring a couple months ago, we picked it out together but it was very rushed. The first day we looked we found a three stone white gold ring that we both liked and it was 50% off:w00t:so because apparently we're impulsive he went back the next day and bought it. It's a beautiful ring, but after trying it on and wearing it around the house a bit I find it quite uncomfortable. It's a half or quarter size to big, but i don't know if thats why its uncomfortable or if its because its a rather thick band. If I get it sized smaller would that make the band even thicker? To add to that, I like the ring and its special cus he picked it for me but i've seen quite a few that I like more when I am passing by jewelery stores. So the other day he says to me "I want you to be comfortable and I think you could find a ring you like better than this one" I said maybe....but I dunno I feel like it would be rude of me to take him up on his offer. He's had the ring 7 months, do jewelery stores take rings back? So we did go look around some yesterday, and he tried on some bands and found that he perfers yellow gold for him. We want matching gold..so I tried some on and I found a beautiful yellow gold three stone ring with 4 small diamonds in the band on each side...so now I'm torn and don't know what to do. Sorry about how long this is I just need some opinions..i'm just in a dither cus i don't want to hurt FH's feelings by saying I want a different one...but he is offering...gahhh.

My current promise ring (has been on my finger for 6 years). It's gold. My FH loves gold and prefers it over silver for engagement and wedding right for me.

I'm not exactly sure which I prefer because all I've seen are people wearing white gold/silver. Any thoughts? Has gold become a tacky color?

We bought our wedding bands back in December when Peoples was having a huge sale. Mine is while gold semi eternity and FH got a titanium and diamond ring. I asked FH in the store 20 times if it fits because titanium cannot be sized, Ive also been asking for the last month and a half to double check that the ring fits, now TODAY he tells me that it has always been BIG!!!!! I am so angry right now!

Does anyone know a trusted online company or a company around London that would be able to get us a ring in his size before the wedding?

Ive called peoples and there is nothing they can do, they said they don't even carry titanium and diamond (yet its on my receipt) and that its too close to the wedding to order something new.

We bought our rings months ago, however, with all the moving etc they have been packed away in the safety deposit box.

Just thought I would share them now, let me know what you think.

Took a little convincing to get 2 bands for my ring, but because it would have been way to pricey to get a custom band for my one of a kind engagement ring, my fiance finally agreed.

Helped tho that we got both bands on a 50% off sale too :) Now I can bug him because his titanium and 18 carat gold band was more than my 2 diamond bands :)
