I personally have to say that I don't think how much you spend on the diamond reflects on how good it is???... it could just be a seasonal thing.. an older ring that hasn't sold, and isn't brand new in their catalogue would more often then not go on sale.. etc..

I can say I've had nothing but great service from Peoples. My FH's father died in a car acciedent when he was about 10.. and he has his father gold wedding band that he got re-sized. It has a design on it and Peoples said they thought that we would most-likely lose the design (it was sized bigger not smaller).. we got it back about 2 weeks later and we couldn't even find where they had made the incision (there had been an incision in it before because after the acciedent his mother had sized the ring to fit her finger. It was perfect.. the design was STILL there.

Also, my ring was only 660 (with the lifetime plan) and it is GORGEOUS and spakles like crazy. All I do is clean it in ring cleaner every now and then.. and it never loses it's sparkle! Also, my wedding band is GORGEOUS.. and it was on sale for only about 200 I do believe..yes, 200$$ .. and it sparkles just as nice! It is soooo gorgeous!!!!!!! I love it and other people are like wow. I'm upset that my camera is not good enough quality to get a good picture.

Anyways, I've had nothing but wonderful experiences.. they always help us when we go there.. they get our rings done right away... I have nothing but good things to say about Peoples.. but like other people have said.. people are people.. so it could be a local thing to...

I just wanted to add a comment about Peoples having poor quality diamond..now...as i posted before my ring didnt come from a peoples display case so i cant REALLY comment....because i had a custom guy under the peoples name do it because we wanted 19k but.....to all those who said they had poor quality...and i mean this honestly....dont you get what you pay for? so like....if you are only expecting to pay 2 grand..then ya...you arent going to get a perfect quality diamond...im sure peoples has excellent quality diamonds...you just have to be willing to pay for them.....i dont really think its fair to say they are poor quality because....you get what you pay for...now.....MAYBE yes they charge more so...if you went elsewhere you could pay less and get a higher quality then...i get that....but...my fh paid a good chunk of change for my solitaire and it definitely reflects so.....and i have the appraisal and stone quality to verify that is practically flawless......but obviously if my solitaire was 1000 bucks...i wouldnt expect the same quality...does that make sense??

My FH paid $2300 for my e-ring and it is amazing quality. First of all, it is platinum, tiffany high setting. It is .50 carat, F Colour and VS 2 or VVS2 (I can't remember this one) and it is a good cut.

I don't think you can get much better for that price! I mean, people's diamonds don't compare at all...especially for what he paid. He had my ring made custom. You say you can't expect much for that money...well at people's they say that they don't even carry diamonds in their store of that quality...they have to order them in.

Personally I am so happy that my FH went for quality over quantity. Anyone could spend over 4000 for a e-ring, but it can be 1 carat and yellow.....I guess that is just what some people prefer (size over quality).

So.. point being - if you can find a personal jeweler you are always better off than going in to People's or other jewellery stores.

Maybe thats why i think saying they have low quality is strange...because i went through their custom guy and am soo impressed i couldnt understand people saying they were low quality.....we're friends with the lady who works there and she suggested the custom guy......maybe for a reason!hahaha

When we were there he was talking to the saleswoman and asking her about their diamonds. She could tell that he really knew what he was talking about and she admitted to us that the diamonds that are in their showcases are really below the quality we were interested in. She explained that they have a custom jeweller who we would have to see in order to get the ring we wanted. My cousin's fiance got her e-ring there and had nothing but problems. when she took it in for sizing, the first time it came back it was the wrong ring altogether. i think it ended up taking about 6 weeks to get the correct ring back. Eventually she asked for her money back and went elsewhere.

My ring is from charm diamond centers and i had problems when i took it in to get sized. First off it took over two weeks to get sized and when i finally did get it back there were ridges left on the ring from the vice grips. They wern't very apologetic and told me if would be another 2 weeks to get it back! I was mad so i emailed the head office, needless to say i got my ring back in 2 days. Still wasn't impressed at how i was treated as a customer.

After much delay with getting my ring dealt with we are now reaching an agreement with our jeweller at people's. The manufacturer will not set it in 19k white gold so he is going to see his custom deigner...they will pay part of the cost...we don't have a quote yet!! Also they are going to take one of my diamonds out of my ring and replace it as there is deffinately something wrong with it...looking dark..very dark....after months of being told it was fine...I went in there on the weekend with FH and we said enough is enough...get it sorted!! so they are. I done a lot of research and I wish I had done it before i got my Ering.....Palladium is the next best thing to platinum!! Doesn't need plating like white gold needs constantly(if you are more sensitive to it...which I must be) not mixed with nickel, doesn't need rhodium plating...why should we be plating our white gold rings with rhodium is what I want to know!! hypoallergenic...great for people with sensitive skin....

only a few stores right now that deal with palladium...you have to search on google to find them...I believe they have a few in Toronto and there is one in markham...they find that when the metal is cooling it goes quote...'swish cheese like' with bubbles appearing...thats what makes it hard to work with and they need special equipment to work with!

I am going to get my band done in Palladium....they say it is a little grey...but that has to be better than wearing my ring only on weekends and having it plated every couple of months!!

I suggest that you check out www.pricescope.com before making any ring purchase. After doing my research (and this is just my experience) I found People's and Mappins to be ridculously overpriced for very poor quality diamonds.

You can also try www.whiteflash.com www.bluenile.ca or www.goodoldgold.com

All three are very highly respected companies and Whiteflash can custom make your setting.

Wherever you choose I hope you get the diamond ring that you want!

My engagement ring is also from Peoples.....from someone who comes in and does custom jewellery.....and i have to say....my ring is fantastic..i got it done in 19k and and it gorgeous....actually much the same like PP'er....quite often people comment on how freakishly sparkley my ring is.......and i took it elsewhere to a totally different jeweller to get it appraised and it was appraised for much more than we paid and even he said what a nice stone it was....and i didnt even buy it from there!!hahaha....so ive had a great experience...i also just got my wedding band from the same custom guy at peoples......again...my friends that i have shown it to comment on how unbelieveably sparkly it is.....

The diamonds of my ring came from FMIL's ring she bought at Peoples in 1979. They're still fantastic.

All my wedding jewellery came from here - earrings, necklace and bracelet. We spent about $1000 on stuff there, and have never been disappointed.

I would not hesitate to recommend them... at least the local ones here (NS)!

I have to totally have to dissagree on the comments about the diamonds. My ring sparkles every where I am, thats one of the most common things that people say to me. As well, I wanted my wedding band to match my mothers wedding band, so we went to another jeweler and had it made, and he told me that my diamonds were very nice and told my FH that he had done a good job. So, I'm not sure if this is all hear-say or what. I'm totally satisifed with my ring.

my e-ring, wedding ring, and anniversary ring are from Mappins (forever line), so is my diamond necklace, and earrings... I rave about their wonderful service, speedy time for re-sizing or repairing, and their quality! I won't go anywhere else for jewellery.. We have bought watches also from there..

My diamonds sparkle regardless of where I am.. I regularly go for cleaning and checkups on everything..

Sorry forgot to say that one of my 10 diamonds that go down the band has something wrong with it...I can point it out to anyone..even if they try and turn it to trick me...I can see that there is something wrong...they went in and pulled it up apparently it have sunk....but something is still wrong and they keep passing it off as fine...not very good customer service....but thats just my local....

We bought my ring in there and it was a lot of money....and I have to take it in because it goes yellow like the other girls said....The thing that frustrates me....I take in nearly every couple of months to get replated...they keep it for two weeks...then I wear it for 6-8 weeks then I have to get it plated again!! After doing research on here with these wonderful ladies....Peoples actually have ring makers come in and they can make any ring in the store into 19k white gold(which peoples does not supply) for an extra cost!! We are soo mad that they did not offer us this option before hand! I went in and asked and they said I can do that but it could cost as much as an extra $1000 because he has to make a mould for my ring!!AHHHHH. I asked them what I could do to stop it from turning....their response....don't wash my hands as often and not too much hand cream.....well thats great advice seeing as I'm a nanny and I have to wash my hands ALL the time...doing so makes my hands dry...and hence ...thats why I need hand cream...which I put on at night and keep my ring off....my solution...I don't wear it anymore during the week...I only get to see it on weekends :(.

Sorry for the rant...but I wish we had gone somewhere else than Peoples. Check some other stores out and if you are going for white gold...ask what options you have to get it in 19k!!

i forgot to mention.. our jeweler told us that the diamonds at peoples are not a good quality... so you might want to look into that.

i like peoples, only ever had good experiences there!! (mappins..now thats a whole different story! lol)

...but we decided to go to another place to get our rings made because we wanted them to be original.

i got my set at peoples and have no problems with it (except yellowing) and it will be replated free if you get the warranty. the girls ther are great and always let me visit my band until i actually bought it with no problems. i also bought a watch for fh there had a problem with it and it was changed with no problems.

I would reccomend them:)

I've had nothing but wonderful service there... I bought FH's w-ring there and it came in right away. It ended up not fitting and they were quick to get a different size. And they said they'd keep trying till they got it right! FH also bought a beautiful necklace for his mother there as well.

Peoples was the only place my mother ever bought a ring that it was appraised for less than what she paid for it, and it was over $1000 difference.

As for my experience I went in there to show my mother the bands we wanted and the sales staff walked by me and ignored my request for help, and we were the only customers in the store.

My girlfriend actually has that set. She loves it. And my ring is also from peoples. I have had no problems. I have other rings as well from there and the only thing that has needed to be done is to be re-plated. But most rings that are white gold and that are not made with nickle have to be done on occasion. Thats when your ring starts to turn yellow gold.

I love my ring. I would say that there is nothing wrong with peoples.
