He spent 2 months looking for a ring, he bought it. I had no clue, it is 3 diamonds, a thick band. I am still not totally in love with the ring, but he loves it so I wouldn't want to hurt his feelings.

We went to the jeweller's together to pick out the ring, we looked at a couple choices but there was one I was in love with, so he looked at me and bought it on the spot :)..

He proposed about a month later.

I had no idea what i wanted for a ring but he picked it out all on his own. I figured he would have gone for the 3 stone ring and he was but then he saw this other one and bought that one instead and I love it. Its an oval diamond and its admired by everyone!!:)

What great stories guys!

Mine is not as romantic. FH and I had been dating 7 and living together 5 when he proposed! I had taken him (read dragged him) into all kinds of shops to show him what I liked. Which was a white gold solitaire with a round cut stone.

I believe the reason he proposed when he did was that I refused to sign any papers with respect to the purchase of a house with out that ring on my finger. I knew that I wanted it (say what you will) and I wasn't about to comprimise that. I knew that once we bought the house there would be no "Spare" money to buy a ring with. That and we were really in a rut. Without encentive - he sucks. It wasn't a suprise when it happend since we had, had a "tiff" a week earlier in which I reminded him that I wasn't signing any papers. - He mentioned it then. MY FH sucks at suprises. Unfortunatley - I always seem to be the one planning things so - every once and a while I like to be suprised!

hmmm. I don't really fit into any of those options. We sort of picked it out together, I think he picked it out, but he says I did!

We had looked at rings a few times... you know for IF we get married, or when we are ready... no real serious talk about getting married. When I saw this one ring it was beautiful, and it was on sale so it put it into our price range. I did love it, and was telling FH that i loved it but it was only on sale till the end of the weekend. WELL.. FH proceeds to make me feel guilty then for putting pressure on him to buy it right now, and not to do that IN the store. When he's ready to buy a ring he will but he didn't appreciate the way I made him feel.

I felt SOOOO bad. because it's true, that's usually not like me to be like "you can buy it now and then give it to me later sometime". I just really liked the ring and the price! so I appologized of course... and we never talked about rings again for a while.

so i was totally SURPRISED when 3 months later he proposed, with THAT ring. During the proposal (on stage at the bridal show) he describes how when he saw my face when i had that ring on he knew, and he went back the next day and bought it and had everything sent to his parents so I"d have no idea.

He picked the diamonds and saphires..designed the ring...got it custom mad..and I was totally surprised and blown away...:)

For me FH and I started to talk about marriage shortly after we finally landed good full-time jobs. We talked about moving in together and marriage, etc.

Then one weekend he asked if I wanted to go look at e-rings because he wanted to get an idea what I like.

So we went to the mall and went into one store and I tried on a few. I have small hands and I'm not much of a girly girl. I also work in a day care with toddlers so my hands take a beating. I wanted something small and something that didn't stick out too much. Something I could wear every day and not be worried about something happening to it while working with all these toddlers. (it getting dirty, ruined, or it scratching a kid lol).

I tried on a tiny diamond on a thin white gold band and fell in love with it. The lady showed Aleks the price and after we left the store is told me he could have bought it. I had told him i didn't want him to spend a lot and the price was in our range.

This was I think around the end of Sept. or beginning of Oct. 2007. Our 4 year anniversary was coming up in Nov. and we had reservations at a B&B in Niagara-on-the-Lake for a weekend to celebrate. I was certain he'd propose then.

Turns out a few weeks after we went to check out rings, he was at another mall with his mother and telling her how he was planning to propose to me and she asked if he wanted to check out rings. They went and I presume with her help he picked the ring. And two weeks after that he proposed to me on his birthday and I was completely surprised and did not expect it at all. He told me that's why he did it on my b-day because he knew I'd be expecting it on our anniversary lol.

The band is very unique. Thin white gold with a nice design in it and a round diamond set into the band in the middle.

My fiance and I were looking at engagement rings about a month before he proposed. He got his mom and twin brother to shop around for prices and designs before he picked one for me.

The ring he got has a similar setting as the Tiffany engagement which was the one I liked the most out of all the ones we've seen.

When we went ring shopping i clearly had NO IDEA about diamonds. I tried on a ring with a 1 carat middle diamond and two side stones...and i fell in love with it. The guy at Heinrichs was like.."Oh its beautiful, and its only $25,000"

hahahah I laughed. Honestly...i had no clue a ring could be so much! Of course i told my FH he was NOT getting me something that expensive. A few months later I got my ring. He picked it out himself. A one-carat round diamond on a white diamond band. I love it! He did great!

He proposed with an empty box and said that he promised to fill it one day with the most beautiful ring that I wanted. We went the next day and picked out my sapphire ring.

We walked by a jewelry store, and he stopped and said hey look at this- I bet you would love this ring. OF course he was right I did love it. About 6 months later I walked by the same store- and the ring was still there (it was an estate ring)- so he told me to try it on, I did and it was a perfect fit (see it was meant for me to have it!).

Then on December 25, 2007 he proposed to me with that ring !

I was surprised with the ring FH got me ( I do love it though!) We had talked about it a bit, and I always said I loved the circular rings (sorry I don't know all of the ring types lol) and the one he got has an emerald three-stone ring, with little square diamonds on each side. It is really beautiful, but nothing I ever would have picked for myself. He said he searched SOOO many stores and it was the only one he liked!

It was so hard to get used to because I wore his promise ring on that finger which seems so tiny now, and I wasn't used to this relatively huge ring getting in the way! haha

My DH designed my ring totally without my input - when we first started dating (like, 6 months in), he mentioned that he'd want to get me a ring that was pink and white gold and I thought that sounded great. About 2.5 years later he proposed with a pink and white gold ring, and even though I've had it on my finger for nearly 2 years now I still stare at it all the time - it's perfect!

He picked it and paid for it....we had been together 3 years and hadn't talked about marriage at all.....i must have mentioned in passing in one of the 3 years i liked the simplicity of a solitaire.....oh and that i didnt care how tiny the diamond was i wanted quality vs quantity......that was it.....he found a style he liked that he thought suited me....had it made and got my ring size from my sister....so it fit perfectly.....funny thing is....i haven't seen a ring yet i love more than mine...he picked THE perfect ring for me!!!!!!

He picked it out, paid for it, and surprised the *** out of me when he proposed with it on Christmas Eve! He always wanted it to be a surprise, and it worked, I didn't think it'd happen for at least another year. I love it too, so..bonus, but I would have loved any ring he gave me!

FH picked it. I love my ring. It is a heart diamond. I had mentioned how much I loved them YEARS before he proposed. I saw one in a magazine once and mentioned how great I thought they were and how I liked them because they were so girly.

Like 3 years later and FH actually remembered that comment. :D Though, it was like 2 sizes too big, haha! We had to have it sized. He was just so afraid it wouldn't go on my finger the night he proposed, so he sorta over-did it.

I told him i like princess cut diamonds, and can only wear white gold. I gave him a sketch of what I really liked and he had it made but where I had told him to take the design and have it made into a solitaire setting, he surprised me with having the ring made as I originally designed it.

Well we dont really fit into any of the options...last april we went ring "shopping" and found one that i liked, but he didnt want to buy it with me around and i was going back to BC the next day, and he was going to sea(naval officer) for 6 wks so he was planning on buying it when he got back and I assume he was going to give it to me the next time we saw eachother when i moved east that summer.....

Well may 24 weekend I discovered I was expecting...so in july when i moved and saw him again we decided that we would hold off on the purchase, as we had more important things to do with the $$..he bought me (and surprised me) a pretty sapphire ring with small channel cut diamonds for a late bday gift and I wear it on my ring finger (I was insecure at first about being unwed and preggers) and now Ive gotten so used to it that I told him I dont need the big diamond, we have a beautiful daughter and a new home so there is more improtant things for our money...plus I will just get an extra sparkly wedding ring:P

My FH picked out the ring with the help of one of my friends that knew what I wanted. She printed him off a picture from the Tiffany website, and he went to the jewelers and got it replicated.

None of the above.

My original e-ring is an heirloom which has been handed down over generations. It is family tradition for him to use that ring to propose.

That being said, when picking out w-rings, I told FH I wanted sapphires, which would not go with my e-ring. I told him I didn't plan on wearing the e-ring on my left hand anymore anyways. I would wear it on my right hand when we go out, but would keep it in it's box most of the time in order to preserve it to hand down to our son.

Well, FH was adamant about me wearing both an e-ring and w-ring together, so I designed both my new e-ring, and w-ring. So, technically once my new rings are made, I will have two e-rings, and one w-ring.

I wanted something different... with detail in the band. I tired on a million rings and HATED them all. so after a few weeks of that... FH said that i had to pick it out... so eventually.. .we found it together. and he went back at a later date and bought it!!

FH proposed, THEN got the ring after cause he wanted to make sure I got the exact ring I wanted, I told him "Nothing big, just something small, I want a centre stone and a stone on either side."

He wouldn't let me go shopping with him... don't know why. i knew I was getting a ring (Plus I wanted to try them all on :P)

But he took his sister and aunt and got me my ring. A princess cut center stone with a channel setting.

I love my ring. I'm just not sure why he asked what *exact* ring I wanted only to buy something different...

I gave some hints - white gold, princess cut diamonds. But in the end he picked it out by himself. And he made an amazing choice!! It is beautiful and exactly what I wanted!!!!

As soon as the topic of getting married came up, I would always drag him into jewlery stores and look at rings. One day I saw one that I actually liked... Then one day, he proposed and sure enough, it was the ring I loved! I'm so glad I don't have to be stuck wearing a ring that I don't really like for the rest of my life! I don't think I would have the heart to tell him if he gave me a ring that I wasn't fond of.

FH and I talked about rings for awhile before he proposed and I always wanted the same style. He took me to try on different styles just to make sure. He really liked solitares but I love three stones and he likes rounds but I love princess cuts. He always told me he wasnt going to propose for another year or so because he couldnt afford the ring yet....but he surprised me with it early! He picked out each diamond individually and had them custom made into the setting that suited me best - I didnt want the prongs to sit up too high and we thought a thin band would be best as I have small hands as well. It was perfect and we are so happy with it. I got the style I always wanted, and he also took the time to carefully choose which diamonds he wanted in it and plan a completely surprising proposal!

We went and found a jeweler to make a custom ring for me. I said what I wanted and I'm glad that I did. If I hadn't my poor sweetie would have spent WAY too much money on a ring. Little did he realize that I'm not actually that bothered by diamonds. I had really wanted a nice purple amethyst stone with just diamond accents. He saved a LOT of money by this!

Unfortunately the ring is STILL being made! We decided to go ahead and plan the wedding without the ring. He knows I'll say yes ;)

I had my dream ring picked out way before I met FH. We went to look at other styles at Spence, and then went to look at ones at Birks. I didn't like anything at either and neither did he. He said I should get the one that I loved the best, and he actually ended up liking it better than the other ones too :) So I picked it out and he paid for it.

Mine is sort of a combination.

We're using the same ring for engagment and wedding ring, so I knew I wanted a semi eternity ring that was really thin. But I hated every channel set I saw, so I wanted a prong set. But fh found a channel set ring that I fell in love with.

So I guess the answer is he picked it, but I approved it?

He proposed, and we went ring shopping together the next day. We decided how much each of us could pay (50/50) and then bought a ring within that budget.

I told him that I wanted a set that "fit" together somehow. He picked it out in the store then brought me to the store. When I admired the same set he knew he had picked right...but didn't buy it until he was by himself.

He had a little help. His aunt works in the same tower as Tiffany in Hong Kong so he picked it out and got her opinion.

I love it. It's perfect for my hand (small, like a PP).
